Description: University College Writing Instructor (EMERGENCY posting)Nature of the assignment: The chief duty of instructors at the Writing Centre is to counsel students individually and in small groups on university writing, especially on organization, reasoning, style, and language use.
Assignment description: Instructors will see students with writing assignments from a variety of disciplines. Instructors may also be asked to deliver group instruction on general writing skills or in the context of specific College program courses. Some positions may involve delivering instruction for English language learners.
Estimate number of positions available: 1
Hours of Work (per position): 50 to 80 hours – subject to change Sessional Dates of Appointment: variable hours from Monday to Friday from 9am – 6pm
The delivery method for this course is currently in-person. Please note that, in keeping with public health advisories, the course delivery method may change as determined by the Faculty or the College. Dates of Appointment: 1 September 2024 to 31 December 2024 (Fall semester)
Salary: $53.41/hour (Writing Instructor 1)
$56.07/hour (Writing Instructor 1 – Long Term)
$57.42/hour (Writing Instructor 2)
$58.58/hour (Writing Instructor 2 – Long Term)
$59.11/hour (Writing Instructor 2 – Priority)
$60.29/hour (Writing Instructor 2 – Priority Long Term)
Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail. Minimum Qualifications: Completed graduate degree from a post-secondary institution required.
Preferred Qualifications: Relevant experience teaching writing one-on-one or teaching in university courses with a writing component preferred. Previous experience in a writing centre and training and experience in second-language instruction at the university level preferred. Experience studying or teaching science considered an asset.
