A vacancy exists for a Paediatric Unit Manager at Life Wilgers Hospital based in Pretoria, reporting to the Nursing Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating clinical practice and resources within the unit to achieve the company and hospital objectives of quality, growth and people.Critical OutputsEffective clinical leadershipLead the implementation of the nursing care plan and co-ordinate and facilitate the delivery of the correct treatment plan within the correct MDT program in order to achieve clinical outcomes.Function as clinical expert in achieving patient outcomes.Ensure competence of staff and students, determine and drive criteria for effective professional socialization, create an environment conducive to learning and provide feedback to relevant stakeholders.Promote customer satisfaction within unit, address customer complaints, conduct quality care rounds and clinical practice audits to monitor care levels and report accordingly.Implement national quality initiatives within unit with the focus on improved clinical outcomes and report accordingly.Identify clinical and safety risks and trends in all of the above, implement corrective action where necessary and monitor on an ongoing basis.Initiate and drive unit specific best operating practice, communicate these for wider implementation and participate in hospital specific marketing initiatives.Effective budgetingParticipate in hospital strategic planning to identify capex projects, developing financial models for proposed plans with local management and enabling functions and assist hospital manager in developing a proposal for capex projects which would include strong motivations thereof.Develop operating budget, ensure final budget presented matches approved parameters, ensure sign off of budget by management and communicate approved budget to all unitsEnsure final working capital budget presented reflects the requirements of the operating budget, ensure sign off by management and communicate approved budget to all unitsEffective management of internal controlsPrepare annual review checklists and manage the internal control environment within the hospital Effective patient services managementEnsure all credit management targets are met (i.e. internal and external debtors days etc)Manage and minimize risk and achieve LHC targets regarding rejections, bad debts, case management write offs and reimbursement codesOversee pre-admission trends with relevant manager and manage appropriatelyIdentify problems and take remedial actions with relevant stakeholders Effective governance and risk managementManage compliance to the executive constraints per corporate governance, report deviations and take action where necessaryEffective quality management and customer relationsAchieve and improve quality metrics, continuously monitor and measure processes to maintain and approve same and actively lead and promote LHC quality driveManage data integrity and compliance to LHC protocolsDevelop and maintain relationships with various internal and external stakeholders, conduct feedback surveys in order to monitor relationships and service levels, identify trends and implement remedial actionsRequirementsDegree or Diploma in nursing requiredPaeds, midwifery and management qualification would be an advantageExperience in a Paediatric unit requiredCurrent registration with SANCProven leadership and people management skillsBasic understanding of labour legislation, financial and chain management principlesUnderstanding of the private healthcare industry, its challenges and role players would be an advantageComputer proficiencyCompetenciesProblem-solving, analysis and judgementResilienceEngaging diversityVerbal & written communication and presentationInfluencingAction orientationBuilding relationshipsCustomer responsivenessOrganisational awarenessLeading by exampleMotivating and developing peopleExcellence orientationEthical behaviourEmail ****** Closing date Wednesday, December 18, 2024Internal applicants - Before making an application, you are requested to discuss your application with your line manager.External candidates will also be considered.Life Healthcare is an Equal Opportunity Employer.Thank you for your interest in this opportunity.
