A position has become available within Santam Marine for an Underwriting Clerk and will be based in the Moffet On Main Lifestyle Centre (201) Port Elizabeth.
Key Accountabilities: Dealing with issuance of new policies/ policy maintenance/ renewal / any other policy related concerns.
Assisting to resolve all administration queries within required timeframe and compliance requirements.
Undertaking client follow-ups with unpaid premiums.
Managing client expectation on expected turnaround times for submitted requests.
Adhering to underwriting criteria and business unit requirements.
Assisting in implementing solutions for improvement.
Standing in for team members should they be absent or on leave during busy periods or absence of key resources, assisting where required.
Achieve monthly key performance metrics and adherence to work force management.
Any additional duties as assigned from Management.
Qualification and Experience Matric/Grade 12 FAIS Compliance RE5 Proven work experience in Marine (advantageous) policy administration and underwriting within the short-term insurance industry. Minimum of 5 years' experience in Marine short-term insurance a preference.
Knowledge and Skills Knowledge of Reinsurance Basic understanding of insurance industry including the reinsurance market and the terminologies used Understanding of policy wordings, specifically related to your Line of Business Able to evaluate information from a variety of sources and solve problems Good decision-making skills; able to consider the costs and benefits of various options and recommend the appropriate one as part of the referral process Good communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable with phone and face to face complex discussions with underwriters, brokers and any other relevant stakeholders Deadline focused; able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines and able to organise own workload effectively to prioritise and delegate to meet service standards Competent user of Excel, Word, Outlook and other Microsoft platforms Operationally efficient; able to follow all process requirements Insurance jobs
