Position: Miner Reports to: Shift Boss Job Overview: The Miner is responsible for the safe and efficient blasting and extraction of minerals in a trackless mine.
The role involves preparing and charging blast holes, ensuring compliance with mining regulations, and collaborating with the team to achieve production targets.
Key Responsibilities: Blasting Operations: Conduct pre-blasting inspections, including verifying the condition of the blast area.
Prepare and charge blast holes according to the mine's design specifications and safety procedures.
Initiate blasts in line with the schedule, ensuring minimal disruption to the environment and surrounding operations.
Trackless Mining Operations: Operate and maintain trackless mobile machinery (e.g., loaders, dump trucks, etc.)
as required for mining operations.
Conduct routine safety checks on equipment and report any issues or malfunctions.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety regulations set out by the Mine Health and Safety Act, including the proper handling of explosives and equipment.
Follow protocols for collision avoidance systems on trackless machines to minimize accidents involving machinery and personnel.
Team Collaboration: Work closely with the mining team, engineers, and supervisors to ensure the safe execution of daily operations.
Provide support in training and mentoring junior staff on blasting and equipment operation.
Qualifications and Requirements: Blasting Ticket: Valid Blasting Certificate for Scheduled Mines in South Africa.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in trackless underground mining.
Technical Skills: Knowledge of operating trackless mobile machinery in underground environments.
Proficient in blast hole preparation, explosive handling, and initiation.
Safety Compliance: Thorough understanding of mine safety protocols, especially regarding collision avoidance and proximity detection systems.
Additional Skills: Strong communication and problem-solving abilities.
Ability to work in high-pressure environments and meet production deadlines.
