Toolmaker - Press experieincePort ElizabethOur client in the automotive industry requires an experienced Toolmaker to be responsible for development, maintenance, repair, & improvement to all tooling dies, jigs, fixtures and fittings for press tools, CNC equipment in line with production and customer requirements to support business objectives.Support new tooling division for new product development, launch and introductions to ensure the robustness of product builds. Work on many phases or sub-tasks of projects or entire projects of moderate complexity, results impacting on project completion.DutiesDevelop prototypes, verify tests/trials and manufacture tools to required specificationsSolve problems and suggest solutions to machiningPerform any other assigned reasonable dutiesRoutine servicing, maintenance and regrinding of tools inline with speckRepair and maintenance of press tools / die repairs within set standardsAttend breakdowns, identify faults and problem-solve at the press with minimal downtime to aid production.Plan repair work, report on breakdown root causes, equipment faults and concerns to management timeously and on a daily basis.Identify and escalate any activity that has the potential to cause harm or damage to ToolsOperate Forklift truck and lifting equipment as and when requiredSupport new tooling and ancillary spares to support production activity and customer deadlines; Assist in tooling buyoffs and trials.Ensure adherence to Quality Management system requirements – participate in carrying outFMEA/related activities; carry out and document engineering level changes to tools and modificationsTest tools (electrical and hydraulic/pneumatic operation) before returning to production document.Ensure compliance / adherence to all prescribed proceduresUnderstand and operate within budget/cost measures for toolingCompile / update prescribed reportsActively participate on all assigned projectsActive involvement in continuous improvement activitiesActive involvement in safety – e.g. ensure risk assessments are available, read and understood for each activity undertaken & promote environmental issues – ensure all company procedures re environment are understood and followed. Ensure safe working environment exists for self and colleagues – compliance to all legislation & procedures.RequirementsLead and train/support technicians or trainees in own work groupQualified, Trade-tested and experienced Toolmakers (new projects and tool maintenance, repair and modification) is essential.Min N3(and matric)In depth knowledge of grinders, lathes & milling machines, Tool, Jig & Die Maker TradePrevious industry / product related experience preferentialValid forklift and crane licenses highly advantageousEssential is the applicants experience on Tool development, fabrication, maintenance, understanding of manufacturing techniques & 5S processes; principles of continuous improvement, fundamental financial/cost conceptsExperience in project management/project team participation – inclusive of working to tight production/project targets, is essential to this position.Adherence to Project timeline and ability to work independentlyBasic understanding of GD& T
