Job Summary:
The Toolmaker is responsible for the design, manufacturing, maintenance, and repair of precision tools, moulds, and dies used in manufacturing processes. This role requires expertise in a variety of machining techniques, leadership skills, and a strong commitment to quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:

Tool Making Techniques:
Study and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications related to tools, molds, and dies.
Handle the selection of appropriate materials and tools for each project.
Apply various machining and tool-making techniques, including milling, grinding, drilling, and CNC machining.
Tool Manufacturing and Repair:
Lead the manufacturing, maintenance, and repair of tools, molds, and dies to meet precise specifications.
Utilize advanced machining techniques, including CNC machining, milling, grinding, and EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining), to shape and finish workpieces.
Perform complex measurements, inspections, and quality checks to ensure the accuracy and functionality of tools.
Collaboration and Leadership:
Collaborate with teams to understand project requirements and provide technical expertise.
Lead and mentor junior toolmakers, offering guidance and training in advanced tool-making techniques.
Coordinate work assignments, prioritize tasks, and ensure the timely completion of projects.
Quality Control:
Assist in conducting quality checks to ensure the accuracy and functionality of tools.
Identify and rectify defects or issues in tools and workpieces.
Establish and enforce quality control standards to maintain high-quality output.
Conduct regular inspections and implement preventive maintenance programs to prolong the lifespan of tools and molds.
Safety and Compliance:
Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols while operating machinery and handling tools.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
Follow company policies and procedures related to tool making and workplace safety.
Documentation and Record-Keeping:
Maintain accurate records of work performed, including measurements, specifications, CAD drawings, and materials used.
Update and organize documentation related to tools, molds, and dies, ensuring accessibility and traceability.
Problem Solving:
Analyze and troubleshoot issues related to tools and molds, implementing corrective measures to resolve problems.
Collaborate with engineering and production teams to develop innovative solutions for tooling challenges.
Continuous Improvement:
Stay updated with the latest advancements in tool-making technologies and techniques.
Identify opportunities for process improvement, cost reduction, and enhanced efficiency in tool manufacturing.
Stock Control:
Ensure required materials and tools are available in sufficient quantities at all times.
Submit procurement lists to relevant buyers promptly.
Maintain up-to-date records of all materials and tools, ensuring sufficient spares are available.
Effective Time Management:
Manage and prioritize daily tasks and assignments efficiently to meet established deadlines.
Develop and maintain a detailed work schedule, balancing immediate needs with long-term projects and goals.
Monitor progress on ongoing projects, taking proactive measures to ensure timely completion.
Adapt quickly to changing priorities and deadlines, demonstrating flexibility and a proactive approach to time management.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Collaborate with colleagues from different departments or teams to facilitate seamless cross-functional communication and cooperation.
Engage in joint projects, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in working with diverse teams to achieve shared objectives.

Qualifications:

Education: A diploma or degree in Toolmaking, Machining, or a related field is preferred.
Experience: Proven experience as a Toolmaker in a manufacturing environment.
Skills:

Proficiency in operating manual and CNC machines.
Strong understanding of machining processes and materials.
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints.
Excellent attention to detail and precision.
Strong problem-solving skills.
Good communication and leadership abilities.

Certifications: Relevant certifications in Toolmaking or Machining are advantageous.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift heavy materials and tools as needed.
Prolonged periods of standing and working with machines.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: R12000,00 - R30000,00 per month
