The Bible Society of South Africa NPC (BSSA) has been translating, publishing and distributing Bibles in South Africa since 1820. The Bible Society of South Africa's mission is to provide affordable Bibles for everyone, in their own language and in suitable formats, so that all may experience the life-giving message of the Word. The abovementioned career opportunity is currently available at the BSSA. The incumbent will be responsible for the administration of licencing agreements, royalty reports and payments; evaluation, recommendations and administration on copyright applications; drafting contracts and reports; dealing with infringements; and research on various legal matters.
Key Performance Areas: Protecting the BSSA's intellectual property and ensuring contractual adherence.Maintain the accuracy of all data, copyright database, schedules and compiling status reports.Respond to licencing, permissions and royalty inquiries.Analyse licence agreements, identify potential risks, conflicts and omissions.Royalty administration, updating policies and compliance documents.Drafting legally sound contracts and ensuring terms comply with internal procedures and guidelines.Keep up to date with the latest developments in national and international copyright law.Monitor and respond to infringements, and maximising the efficiency and success of takedowns including statistical data and formulating reports.Conducting research and formulating recommendations on legal matters and legal compliance.Liaise with outsourced legal advisors when needed.Requirements: Relevant Qualification: Paralegal Practice Higher Certificate, Diploma in Law or LLB (specialising in Intellectual Property).At least 2 years' experience in Intellectual Property, copyright law and drafting agreements.Broad legal knowledge, including POPIA and GDPR.Skills/Competencies: Good judgement, negotiation skills and decision-making ability.Ability to draft sound legal agreements.Excellent attention to detail.Excellent communication skills and fully bilingual in English and Afrikaans.Strong research, technical, analytical and numerical skills.Deadline-orientated with a strong sense of ownership.Customer-orientated with the ability to create and maintain strong relationships.A team player with a high EQ and functions well under pressureHighly organised with the ability to multi-task and manage time effectively.Applications close on 16 February 2025 If you do not hear from us by 1 March 2025, please consider your application unsuccessful.
