A position for a Tax Technical Account exists in the Group Tax Team, Corporate Services based in Santam Head Office, Bellville, Cape Town.
The primary focus of the role is to support the Tax Compliance Manager to manage tax accounting and reporting for the Group. The individual will also be responsible for the preparation of income tax and other taxes due (actual and forecast), prepare income tax and other tax returns for submission to the South African Revenue Service ('SARS'), respond to various tax queries and to assist in ad-hoc tax projects.
What will make you successful in this role?The role will primarily be responsible for the tax reporting process, including the preparation and review of tax disclosures in the Annual Financial Statements and/or Regulatory Reporting.Analyse tax on investments to ensure accuracy and completeness of taxes reported by asset managers.Prepare and/or review consolidated deferred tax and effective tax rate for the Group.Prepare and/or review income tax returns for submission to SARS.Assist with monitoring, assessing and advising on the changes to tax legislation and or tax reporting requirements.Identify inefficiencies and gaps within the group tax reporting process and provide solutions including automation of processes.Assist with responding to business, audit and SARS tax queries.Reviews and/or preparation of ad-hoc tax reporting requirements as required from time to time.Assist with implementation of new SARS and IFRS requirements impacting tax reporting.Assist with ad-hoc tax projects, including inputs regarding Corporate Finance deals.Building relationships within Group Tax, Group Reporting, wider business units and stakeholders.Building strong relationships with SARS at the Middle Management and Tax Specialists Subject Matter Levels.Work independently to proactively identify and investigate potential risks and to research and present potential solutions to the Group Tax Manager for review.Provide coaching and guidance to relevant team members.Qualification and ExperienceCA(SA) or Bcom with Higher diploma/honours in tax with 3 years or more relevant tax compliance and/or tax reporting experience.Experience in a short-term insurance environment would be highly beneficial.KnowledgeHFM and Oracle experience is highly beneficial.Financial Services/Short term Insurance Tax related experience is essential.IFRS knowledge particularly related to tax disclosure, tax accounting and group reporting.Strong Tax Compliance and/or Tax Reporting experience.SkillsTaxation and accounting skills.Solution oriented and proactive (self-starter).People management and relationship building skills.Computer literacy (advanced Excel spreadsheet capabilities, working knowledge of financial and general ledger systems).Core CompetenciesBeing resilient - Contributing through others.Collaborates - Contributing through others.Cultivates innovation - Contributing through others.Customer focus - Contributing through others.Drives results - Contributing through others.About The CompanySantam is the leading short-term insurer in South Africa.
