Role Clarification & Key Performance Areas The Information & Communication Services (ICS) Department at the University of the Western Cape delivers a broad range of best practice Information & Communication Technology services to one of South Africa's most dynamic universities.
The ICS department has identified a growth area within the Operations and Services unit that focuses on delivering services aligned to the University strategy and as part of the Institutional Operating Plan (IOP).
An opportunity exists for a suitably qualified candidate:
Key Responsibilities: Member of the Networks unit responsible for overall network support across multiple campuses.Configure, implement, and maintain network equipment including core, datacentre and enterprise switches, AP's, WLC, IPT, and routers.Contribute to the development of procedures and processes for enterprise network operations.Contribute to developing technology standards and best practices for the enterprise network.Analyze technology industry and market trends, determining potential impact upon the enterprise.Support integrated network technologies such as LAN, WAN, Wireless, convergence, and other digital communication technologies.Strong network design background, configuration, and optimization skills.Document and maintain inventory of network equipment and topology.Contribute to network capacity planning.Familiar with network monitoring tools and troubleshooting techniques.Work closely with the datacentre infrastructure team.Experiential exposure to network best practice frameworks, change control, open-source technologies, and operating systems.Minimum Qualifications: A NQF7 (or higher) level qualification with three years in a datacentre environment.Or Matric plus relevant accredited (industry recognized) professional certification/s (for example CCNP, CCNA, Network+, etc) with demonstrated 5 years' experience in a datacentre environment at a large organization or educational institution.Additional Skills: Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.Ability to work across interdisciplinary teams.Ability to analyze and resolve problems swiftly using a range of network diagnostic tools and techniques.Ability to adapt to new technologies.Ability to adapt to best practice frameworks to secure the network.Ability to create and maintain technical documentation, policies, and processes related to the network infrastructure environment.In your application, you are encouraged to highlight your strengths and include anything else you deem exceptional and outstanding for consideration by the selection panel.
