What will you do as a Sustaining Capex Project Planner? The Sustaining Capex Project Planner is responsible for meticulously crafting and managing project schedules, resource allocation, and timelines to ensure the completion of projects. They are responsible for coordinating tasks, optimizing resource usage, and mitigating potential delays.
They will be responsible for creating the baseline schedule, re-baseline schedules, commodity graphs, reports, performance curves. The Project Planner will report to the Sustaining Capex Project Portfolio Manager. The role may also be required to report on Growth Projects where required.

Your core responsibilities are: Project Scheduling and planning Prepare an initial overall annual Sustaining Capex Portfolio execution plan for Lesedi and Durban terminals for the next calendar period to understand projects which can be executed within the available technical and project management resources and will be used as Sustaining Capex Portfolio baseline;Categorise projects into groups based on achieving the same strategic objectives. (Since strategic objectives are documented in the sub-plans, the categories will usually be based on the sub-plans and hence will help to identify areas of similar organisational need)Ensure projects are balanced across categoriesIdentify high level interdependencies between projects and categoriesPrioritise the projects that are most important using the criticality rating (where projects have equal criticality can consider using weighted prioritisation models or more simple ranking e.g. Mission critical, Highly desirable, Desirable)Analyse various facets of project work and progress updates for completing the work in line with the baseline schedule;Collaboratively develop and maintain the Sustaining Capex Project Master schedule;Align baseline scheduling with inputs from the 8 week look ahead planLayout, generate, and distribute schedule reports to internal and external personnel;Prepares and analyses critical path, resource loaded schedule and recommend solutions;Promote early corrective action to meet a project's schedule and budget;Participate in large project reviews and other projects as designated;Support Project Managers with scheduling all project related engineering work packages;Work closely with Procurement and include all procurement work processes into the schedule for each projectWork together with other functions to harmonize the planning with all relevant working streams within Engineering, contractors, operations during 8 week look ahead plan, maintenance, berth planners to identify windows of opportunity to conduct worksImprove scheduling processes to support the above mentioned.Review risks and impact of changes to project scope to the project team.Lead the Project teams to prioritize signed off Baseline Project Program. Ensure that Project Planners understand importance of tasks outstanding, constraints, budget on resources and deadlines.Create, or participate in the creation of project documentation.Interface with the team members and contract personnel to design a solution and establish associated project timelines and budgets that allow for the delivery of the project within the constraints.Establish and maintain a usable and well-communicated schedule for each project.Work with the Sustaining Capex Portfolio Manager, Project Cost Controller and Project Managers to ensure all changes are understood and documented for potential claims.Monthly Reporting Internal project reporting and administration. Analyse site progress reports from Project Planners and Site Management to minimize all Risks.Be prepared to discuss project quality, client and team satisfaction, and project success during regularly scheduled and ad hoc project review meetings with the Project Managers.Track and report weekly on percentage complete, budget burn, earned value, slippage, project effort and duration to complete and other key project reportsManage all Tender program and Contract Award program from Head OfficeReview all Project Programmed for all the site to mitigate all RisksResource management Determine project roles of team members based on project requirements, timeframes and budget.When necessary work with external contractors in addition to internal resources.Review resource skill sets (competencies) required for the project based on project specifications and requirements according to the contract.Determine resource requirements (including staffing, software, hardware, and Facilities) of projects, based on project specifications.Manage contract Project Planners and Junior Planners.Project control Manage scope creep through client change orders, internal change orders, phased delivery or other methods to ensure projects deliver on timeline, scope, and budget.Evaluate all key project deliverables, as well as final product to ensure traceability of requirements, high quality and client acceptance.Responsible for formal sign off on all project baseline programmedIdentify, track, manage and mitigate risk on specific client engagements.
