Job Description - SummaryThe Server Administrator is responsible for configuring and maintaining the College's server hardware, software, and other related systems as assigned. Other responsibilities include analyzing business needs as well as creating and providing tools to improve user processes. The Server Administrator is expected to provide general technical support to end users.
This position will have direct access to confidential information that should not be disclosed directly or indirectly to others for any purpose other than to perform the essential duties of this position.
Shift: Day/Evening/As required to support college systems.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesInstall, configure, maintain and troubleshoot server hardware, operating systems and server applications.Maintain VMWare virtualization environment.Assist with provisioning and maintaining servers in AWS Cloud.Manage Active Directory, group policies, ADFS, Azure AD, and associated servers.Manage Windows server-based network infrastructure services such as DNS and DHCP.Assist with administration of Office 365 email and on-premise email servers/relays.Maintain the College's SharePoint server farm and associated applications.Configure, maintain and troubleshoot server backup solutions such as Veeam.Control access to network file shares and storage.Apply software and operating system patches on a regular maintenance schedule.Perform daily monitoring of server and network equipment.Oversee and manage assigned network and system security.Coordinate with network administrators to control server and application access.Work closely with hardware and software vendors for technical support.Create and maintain system documentation for business continuity.Maintain accurate server hardware inventory.Provide technical support and training to end users.Maintain an organized, clean and safe work area.Perform other duties as assigned.General QualificationsIn order to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Experience managing Windows Server, Active Directory and Group Policies.Experience deploying server hardware and managing server applications.Must be familiar with IT security best practices and industry standards.Must demonstrate a quality and results-driven approach.Must demonstrate a customer and company-focused attitude.Must be an excellent troubleshooter.Ability to communicate effectively with other employees of the organization.Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.Ability to write technical documentation.Required QualificationsAssociate's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field; Bachelor's preferred.Minimum of 2 years of experience in a server administrator role, preferably in an educational institution.Strong understanding of network infrastructure, enterprise systems, and cloud technologies.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Familiarity with relevant regulations and best practices in information security and data privacy.Preferred QualificationsBachelor's Degree in information technology, computer science, or related field.
Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsCompTIA Security+ or other security-focused certifications are preferred.
