Our client is seeking a Structural Engineer who will be responsible for designing, planning, and overseeing the construction of various structures.
You will work closely with architects, contractors, and other engineers to ensure that buildings are safe, sustainable, and structurally sound.
The role requires expertise in handling large-scale construction projects, with a particular focus on operations in Zambia and broader African environments.
Responsibilities Designing Structures: Collaborate with architects and designers to create new building additions or renovations to existing structures, ensuring that they meet both aesthetic and functional requirements.
Calculating Loads and Stresses: Utilize advanced mathematical formulas, modeling software, and analysis techniques to calculate the loads, stresses, and other engineering requirements of the structure.
Material Selection: Recommend the best materials for each project, taking into account factors such as safety, sustainability, cost, and usage requirements.
Inspection and Assessment: Inspect buildings, particularly unsafe or deteriorating structures, and provide advice on how to enhance or restore their integrity.
Preparation of Drawings and Models: Create technical drawings, specifications, and computer models for construction contractors to follow.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all projects comply with local and international building codes, regulations, and obtain all necessary permits and approvals.
Supervision of Construction: Oversee the construction process to ensure that the structure is built according to design specifications, using appropriate materials, and following best practices for safety and sustainability.
Coordination with Project Teams: Work with cross-functional teams including project managers, contractors, and other engineers to ensure timely and on-budget project delivery.

Qualifications: Bachelor's or Masters degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in structural engineering, with a strong focus on large-scale construction projects.
Experience working in Zambia or the broader African region is highly preferred.
Solid understanding of engineering principles, materials science, and construction practices.
Knowledge of local Zambian building codes and environmental regulations is an advantage.
Proficient in structural design software such as AutoCAD, SAP2000, or equivalent.
Relevant professional certifications such as Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent are a plus.
