No experience required after completion of community service. Community Service Speech Therapist/Speech and Audiologist completing their contract on or before 31/12/2024 are encouraged to apply. Competencies/Knowledge and skills: Display competence in the assessment and management of speech, language, communication, voice, and swallowing disorders amongst the adult population in an acute care setting. Should display good communication and collaboration skills and an ability to engage in solution-based problem solving. Candidate should display empathy for patients, promote advocacy and facilitate holistic treatment. Applicants should be prepared to undergo medical surveillance as an inherent job requirement. Candidates who are knowledgeable and have experience/ exposure in adult-neuro rehabilitation, critical care, burns management, head and neck cancer management and neuro-progressive conditions and experience in acute care and within a multidisciplinary will be an added advantage. Duties : To screen, assess and manage speech, language, communication, voice, and swallowing disorders in an inpatient and outpatient acute care setting. To independently work within a multidisciplinary team to assist patients with a variety of medical pathologies including strokes, traumatic brain injuries, tracheostomies, burns, cancer, and progressive degenerative conditions. To comply with all departmental procedures and protocols. To complete monthly statistics and reports. To work within a multidisciplinary approach including attendance and participation in MDT events. To attend scheduled ward rounds and meetings and refer patients to the appropriate levels of care. To communicate effectively with relevant stakeholders regarding patient treatment. To coordinate clinical and nonclinical areas and manage resources appropriately. To participate in all departmental, hospital and provincial activities. To improve professional competence by regular self-learning and reflection and uphold ethical principles. To supervise students and community service therapists. To comply with hospital and departmental quality assurance standards and management of personal performance and review thereof.
