Requirements:
Appropriate medical qualification that allows registration with the HPCSA as a specialist in internal medicine and a sub-specialist in the required field. Candidate must be able to further develop and run existing projects. Strong focus on developing and implementing research ethos. Must be willing to work in a multidisciplinary team.
Duties:
General Medicine: As a consultant, the candidate will be responsible for the clinical management of general medical patients within any of the General Medicine Units at Helen Joseph Hospital. The incumbent will lead operational and academic ward rounds including post-intake, follow-up, and grand rounds.
Supervise registrars, medical officers, intern doctors, and students in patient care and the performance of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
Manage patients at MOPD and those attending the Subspecialty OPD or Speciality Ward Consultations.
Set an appropriate example as an exemplary medical practitioner and serve as a role model and clinical mentor to junior doctors and associated clinical staff.
Coordinate sub-specialist services at Helen Joseph Hospital for both inpatient and outpatient services.
Supervise the clinical technology service as required and oversee the development of appropriate referral pathways.
Participate in the academic duties of the Wits Internal Medicine and related Departments/Sub Specialties.
Perform and supervise research within the department and MMed students.
Train and supervise Senior registrars, Registrars, Medical Officers, Medical Interns, and Medical students.
Provide medical support and guidance to nursing staff.
Involve in planning, running, and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, training, and examining processes.
Fulfill managerial and administrative responsibilities within the Department of Internal Medicine.
Participate in management committees of the Helen Joseph Hospital.
Construct rosters for the provision of 24-hour medical care.
Exhibit a patient-first mentality, possess general management skills, and demonstrate excellent communication skills.
Show integrity, professional dependability, leadership experience, conflict management, and cost-containment skills.
Have management training and experience, technology and computer skills, problem-solving experience, and coaching and mentoring experience.
As per OSD, overtime is mandatory.
