Sommelier

Job Summary: The Sommelier at a 5-star game lodge is responsible for managing the wine service and wine program, curating a world-class wine list, and providing expert recommendations to enhance the guest dining experience. The role requires a deep knowledge of wines and exceptional service skills.Minimum Requirements:Education:Certification from a recognized sommelier program (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET).Formal training in wine, spirits, and hospitality is an advantage.Experience:Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a sommelier in a luxury environment, preferably within a 5-star lodge, hotel, or fine dining restaurant.Strong knowledge of South African wines and international wine regions.Skills and Competencies:Excellent knowledge of wine service, pairing, and presentation.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with a diverse range of guests.Ability to work in a remote, high-pressure environment while maintaining professionalism and poise.Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.Familiarity with wine inventory management systems.Personal Attributes:Passion for wine and hospitality, with a commitment to delivering a world-class guest experience.Adaptability and cultural sensitivity, with the ability to interact with international guests.Enthusiastic and positive attitude, with a dedication to continuous learning and improvement.Work Environment: This role is based at a 5-star game lodge within Kruger National Park.
