The SOM Assistant Dean for Finance position serves as a resource for the School of Medicine in all financial and accounting matters.
Prepares and provides management reports in collaboration with the Dean and SOM Chief Business Officer.
Prepares business proformas in compliance with financial internal controls based on SOM strategic and operational assumptions.
Responsible for leading financial/accounting process improvement initiatives.
Leads on-going effort to provide end-user guidance in the form of standard policies and procedures, automated transaction processing flows, department and systematic internal controls, and monthly management reports for timely operational decisions.
Oversees annual budget preparation and ongoing reporting.
Represents the SOM Dean on various standing institutional or affiliate committees as requested.
Supervises the SOM Finance and Business Reporting Staff.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
•A high level of diverse technical skill and knowledge is required to support executive decision requirements.
•A working knowledge of external financial accounting standards, health care and tax regulations, analysis techniques, institutional policies and procedures, internal management controls, institutional data bases and systems, and desk top office computer programs contributes to arriving at relevant conclusions and recommendations for key decision-maker.
Communication and Time Management Skills
•Excellent communication and time management skills are necessary to inform decision- makers and colleagues dependent on work performed in this position.
•Proven abilities to timely synthesize financial material, both orally and in writing, relevant to a targeted audience's needs
•Work productively with peers within and outside of the Dean's Office in a timely, positive, and constructive manner.
•Discern and consider points of view across organizational lines and communicate on a multi-disciplinary basis; and exercise good judgment and act in a professionally courteous manner when dealing with controversial, confidential, or sensitive material.
Leadership Skills

•Must be able to independently research issues to determine relevance and apply findings in settings ranging from drafting policies to implementing operational procedures.
•Master's in Accounting, Finance or related field required.
•10 or more years of progressive experience as a manager or director.
•Experience as an accounting professional specializing in the health care or education industry may be substituted.
•CPA
•At least 2 years in a financial position at a medical educational institution or affiliated health care organization.
