Job Purpose
The Department of Social Development, Western Cape Government has opportunities for suitably qualified and competent social workers to provide social work services within the Directorate: Facility Management through the promotion of social change, problem solving in human relationships and the empowerment and liberation of people to enhance social well-being. These positions are based in Youth Substance treatment centre and Secure Care Centre respectively and appointments are in terms of the Public Service Act.
Minimum Requirements
A formal tertiary qualification in Social Work (Bachelor of Social Work) that allows professional registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions as Social Worker; Registration with the South African Council for Social Service Professions as a Social Worker; Grade 1: No experience; Grade 2: A minimum of 10 years appropriate experience in Social Work after registration as a Social Worker with the South African Council for Social Service Professions; Grade 3: A minimum of 20 years appropriate experience in Social Work after registration as a Social Worker with the South African Council for Social Service Professions; Grade 4: A minimum of 30 years appropriate experience in Social Work after registration as a Social Worker with the South African Council for Social Service Professions.
Recommendation
A valid (Code B or higher) driving licence. NB: People with disabilities that restrict driving abilities, but who have reasonable access to transport, may also apply.
Key Performance Areas
Render a social work service with regard to the care, support, protection and development of vulnerable individuals, groups, families and communities through the relevant programmes (case work, group work and community work); Attend to matters that results in or stems from social instability in any form; Supervise and support social auxiliary workers; Keep up to date with new developments in the social work and social welfare fields; Perform all administrative functions required of the job.

Remuneration
Grade 1: R 308 247 – R 362 439 per annum, Grade 2: R 376 416 – R 436 014 per annum, Grade 3: R 452 667– R 532 113 per annum, Grade 4: R 554 919 – R 687 918 per annum (OSD as prescribed).
Note on remuneration: Cost-to-employer (CTE) remuneration packages for certain occupation-specific dispensations (OSD) are inclusive of all costs related to service benefits or obligations including basic salary, 13th cheque, medical assistance, housing assistance, pension-fund contributions, etc. Where remuneration is not indicated as CTE, employees' service benefits or obligations are funded or co-funded in terms of the applicable prescripts or collective agreements.
Notes
