Purpose of Job The Snr Manager ER Mining will oversee Employee Relations (ER) services, ensuring alignment with company standards and the reduction of business risks.
This role requires deep expertise in South African labour law and mining-specific legislation to support the business and manage employee relations effectively.
Key Accountabilities Employee Relations Leadership Oversee ER across assigned OME/s to ensure labour peace and stability.
Promote a culture of fairness, adherence to agreements, and consistent rule application.
Guide key processes like disciplinary actions, grievances, redundancies, incapacity, and industrial actions.
Maintain and improve functional Partnership Forums.
Stakeholder Engagement Build and manage relationships with trade unions, management, and employees.
Align all stakeholders to shared goals and ensure communication on ER impacts.
Ensure line management and HR are trained in ER capabilities per defined standards.
Technical Oversight Provide legally sound ER guidance and support for mining-related legislation and processes, such as: Section 54 work stoppages.
Section 64 fatality-related inquiries.
Appointment of Health and Safety Representatives.
Facilitate strategic business-trade union engagements, particularly in compliance with COP28 resolutions.
Provide guidance on Sasol's Just Transition and its role in the 2030 Sustainability Plan.
Capacity Building Develop training plans for trade union partners on Just Transition challenges and opportunities.
Support HR in driving inclusion, diversity, and organisational culture.
Requirements Required Qualifications and Experience Education : Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB).
Admitted as an Attorney or Advocate.
Experience : 6–10 years of practicing labour/employment law.
Deep understanding of South African Labour Law and mining-specific legislation.
Knowledge of South African Labour Dispute Resolution processes.
Proven ability to interpret and apply labour and employment-related legislation.
Experience in policy development, legal opinion writing, and landmark case law.
