Senior Legal Advisor/Officer - Commercial (JB4265)Location: DurbanSalary: Market RelatedThe Legal Officer should have a strong commercial, corporate, contracts, and legal litigation background. The Legal Officer should be able to work unsupervised and ensure fail-safe systems to follow up on matters. Daily maintenance and reminders to the Legal Head on issues that affect the department and organization. The Legal Officer will manage casework and legal matters while overseeing case review and legal matters. The Legal Officer will contribute to objectives based on involvement in policy and procedural review, continuous improvement, research, and development.Educational Requirements for Legal Officer:LLB Degree or equivalentAdmitted attorneyExperience within a commercial environment/corporate is essential3-5 years post-admission experience within a legal environmentExperience in company secretarial duties and regulatory complianceLitigation experience essentialDrafting of pleadings, notices, and documents without supervisionDuties and Responsibilities of Legal Officer:Strong administrative and managerial skillsAttention to deadlines and timelinesProduce monthly status reports on all matters within the portfolioDevelop and manage legal assistance and caseworkUndertake legal research in relation to allocated projectsLitigation in high court and magistrate's courtDrafting of pleadingsAttending court/labour court/CCMA hearingsLiaising with counselNegotiating best deals/settlementsAssist with governance, compliance, and riskDrafting agreements, internal leases, contractsDiary management of case and legal mattersKeeping attorney/office updated on court datesKeeping records of all lease agreementsTyping documentation and pleadings
