About the SME Accelerator: The JSE Enterprise Development solution was established to enable the growth of SMEs across South Africa. Its main solution is the Accelerator programme, which is a customized solution to pivot medium-sized enterprises. It has demonstrated success by helping companies grow in revenue, market expansion, and organisational & leadership development. The solution also supports red tape reduction initiatives, convenes SME development role players to design aligned and collaborative solutions, and provides direct capital matching and capital readiness solutions.
Purpose of the role: This new role within our dynamic SME Development team will play a key part in building the JSE's SME community. The successful candidate will work with innovative SMEs to deliver novel JSE programmes, develop new propositions that challenge the market, and create a community of SMEs across our core sectors that drive innovation, grow the companies across markets, and support funding readiness. This role will represent the JSE in our SME communities, developing relationships critical to our success while applying business knowledge and acumen that will be critical to theirs. We are looking for a great communicator, someone who is client-focused and has a proven track record of success with the ability to get things done working independently and within a team. The ability to build relationships, harness capability, and shape opportunities for business growth is essential.
Delivery of SME development activities, including but not necessarily limited to:
Working on projects and new commercial engagements to support the wider business programme through SME development, and holding events that support and promote the programme.
Providing a point of contact for all SME enquiries and relationships at the JSE, creating, leading, and managing relationships for a range of propositions and business opportunities to support the JSE brand and business development activities in the marketplace on behalf of our SME partners.
Undertaking SME development activities individually, with the team, and with agencies, including but not limited to Business Needs Assessments, running events/webinars for the community, project exploration workshops, as well as supporting funded projects that require SME development input.
Managing the Customer Relations Management (CRM) process for SMEs you are supporting, ensuring all SME entries are maintained accurately and in a timely manner.
Developing relationships with broader stakeholders including local, regional, and national government, businesses, international development and aid agencies, and academia.
Promoting the JSE and its work across a wide range of platforms and events.
Helping to design and deliver new strategic partnerships that lead to business growth and undertaking any other reasonable tasks commensurate with this role and/or within your capability to enable the JSE to realise its strategic objectives.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree qualifications in business or a related discipline, or equivalent related experience.
Minimum of 3 years' prior experience working in an SME and business engagement and coaching role.
Proven track record of delivering projects with multiple partners.
Excellent organisational skills, the ability to prioritise your own work, and coordinate the work of other team members within the wider programmes.
Excellent interpersonal relationship skills, and the ability to influence others.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience working with SMEs and stakeholders in an incubator/accelerator environment.
Experience working within South African industries, from ESG, tech, digital, logistics, health, etc.
Understanding of ESG and sustainability requirements would be advantageous.
Knowledge of the financial and practical support available to SMEs.
Knowledge of grant funding available to SMEs.
Knowledge of the delivery of grant-funded programmes.
