This exciting new role will focus on the delivery of capacity building across our global network of projects. It will also facilitate the adoption of Panthera's Counter Wildlife Crime (CWC) implementation guidelines by our site-based projects. Initially this role will primarily be based in Africa, however, there is significant scope for growth including supporting Panthera projects in SE Asia and Latin America. The successful candidate will report to Panthera's Site Protection Lead and work closely with our regional CWC coordinators, hub directors, and Panthera site-based project managers and partner organizations.
The CWC Site Protection Advisor has the following specific responsibilities:
Overseeing (including planning and delivery) of site protection training;Mentoring Panthera project staff and personnel from partner organisations (government and non-government) involved in site protection activities;Monitoring effectiveness of capacity building;Developing Panthera training resources/materials;Assisting with the adoption of Panthera's CWC implementation guidelines at project sites;Working with Panthera's Site Protection Lead to champion the role of wildlife protectors;Working with Panthera project staff to support strategic and tactical planning;Assisting Panthera to develop and maintain strong working relationships with partner organisations including through coordinated and collaborative interventions to tackle wildlife crime problems;Maintaining a strong working knowledge of legislation, national standards (including human rights) and good practice in capacity building in relevant countries;Maintaining a strong working knowledge of relevant conservation technology;Supporting project technical and financial reporting and;Where necessary support the development of CWC-related grant applicationsExperience and personal attributes
Minimum of five years demonstrable experience training and mentoring wildlife protection or other law enforcement personnel;Proven experience working in an NGO environment is highly advantageous;Excellent communicator with proficiency in verbal and written English. Fluency in French, Spanish and/or Portuguese is an advantage;Well-developed inter-personal and leadership skills;Willingness to travel regularly and work outside conventional hours/environments;Experience living in remote areas and in austere conditions for extended periods of time;Experience working in Africa is highly advantageous;Experience and willingness to undertake administrative tasks;Demonstrated interest and knowledge of conservation issues, in particular those relating to wildlife crime, is highly desirable;Proven experience and ability to collaborate with colleagues across countries and cultures.How to Apply Please submit your CV and cover letter to the Panthera Careers Page.
