The function of the Site Engineer will be to ensure the successful completion of quality projects within both the project time frames and budget, through the co-ordination of all relevant parties and the on-going identification and implementation of processes, practices, and solutions that ensure maximum efficiency and control of costs during the construction processJob responsibilities:Risk Management: Proactively report and address risks, draft assessments, and SOPs, prioritise opportunities for cost reduction, transfer risks effectively, identify opportunities, and contribute to mitigating actions, peer reviews and actively participate in internal and external auditsPlanning and Organising: The role involves understanding and applying construction programs and planning techniques, collaborating with the Site Agent and Planner to formulate schedules, ensuring accurate communication of program requirements, implementing works, and coordinating site preparation activities. In addition, it requires strategic planning of project execution, fostering collaboration between site office and on-site staff, overseeing and synchronizing procedures related to planning, costing, and contract management, while demonstrating a clear understanding of contractual elements to manage ongoing works in alignment with the project's contractual obligations and restrict wastage and overtime as far as reasonably possibleProject Execution: The project involves monitoring and regulating overall progress, costs, quality, and safety compliance, ensuring adherence to quality standards, actively contributing to cost control, efficiently managing construction plant and equipment, enforcing correct drawings and specifications for timely project completion, coordinating work systematically, and identifying cost-effective options for plant and equipment usage. Constant liaising with the client's resident engineer and clerk of works to ensure timeous inspections and quality sign-offs. Generating and following up on queries linked inadequate construction information supplied by the professional team. Submitting and tracking sample and shop drawings approvals, ensuring that long lead items are prioritised and approved timeously, so as not to delay on-site requirementsReporting: Management reporting involves presenting clear reports detailing aspects on target, both negative and positive variations, along with actions taken to minimize the impact on project completion and assisting in the preparation of contract reports. Technical responsibilities include additional support duties to meet client needs, while diaries entail maintaining a daily site diary by collating information for approval and updating a delay diary to manage project schedule aspectsAcademic qualifications:Relevant BSc Engineering /Construction Management degree within the construction industry and SACPCMP registrationWork experience and skills:3-5 years on-site experience as a site engineer on major building projects
