With more than 96,000 employees, SGS operates a network of over 2,600 offices and laboratories around the world.Job DescriptionThe Shift Leader is responsible for supervising the sampling, sample collection, sample preparation, analytical functions, and activities at the Laboratory, ensuring timely sampling, sample collection, sample preparation, analysis of samples, data evaluation, and reporting of results to comply with contractually agreed turnaround times. This role supports the Lab Supervisor & Lab Manager to meet business objectives and ensure compliance with Company policies and business guidelines.Supervise the sampling, sample collection, sample preparation, analytical functions, and activities at the Laboratory.Ensure timely sampling, sample collection, sample preparation, analysis of samples, data evaluation, and reporting of results to comply with contractually agreed turnaround times.Supervise the key performance indicators of the Lab Technicians and Operators.Measure the performance of individual Lab Technicians and Operators and manage accordingly.Manage time and attendance of Lab Technicians and Operators.Responsible for the Learning and Development of Lab Technicians and Operators.Ensure adequate manpower resources, equipment, and tools are available for operational efficiency.Maintain sampling, sample preparation, and laboratory equipment.Control and request ordering of consumables from the Lab Supervisor and assist with maintaining associated records and stock levels.Assist in maintaining all human resources related documentation for the shift.Assist the Lab Supervisor with revenue and expense control of Laboratory Operations in line with operational budgets and business strategies.Assist in the management and continuous improvement of the quality management system, and implementation of certifications and accreditation systems within the business lines.Assist management in the effective implementation and maintenance of SGS QHSE systems, as well as client-specific safety standards (e.g. ISO 17025 & NOSA).Assist the Lab Supervisor with liaison and technical support to all present and potential clients.Assist the Lab Supervisor with complaints and claim resolution.Assist the Lab Supervisor with technical and sales support.Keep abreast of new trends, current developments, and relevant research.Attend all meetings as per client requirements.Maintain a minimum of 75% scoring with the Glencore KPI's.Perform any other reasonable task as assigned by the direct line manager.Conduct relevant monthly meetings with Lab Technicians and Operators.Assist the Lab Supervisor with preparation for monthly service level agreement performance meetings with clients.Assist the Lab Supervisor with quarterly client satisfaction surveys to be conducted with all stakeholders.QualificationsPreferably a Degree/Diploma in Metallurgy or Chemistry.Minimum Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science.Coal Beneficiation qualification will be advantageous.TQMS qualification advantageous.Additional InformationREQUIRED SKILLSMinimum of 3 years supervisory experience, preferably in a coal environment.Coal sampling, sample preparation, analysis, and coal beneficiation experience essential.Evaluation of data and reporting of results essential. Cost Control.Client liaison skills are essential.Good interpersonal and communication skills.Goal-oriented.Problem-solving skills.
