Description: This course explores the diverse array of myths, legends, and beliefs that have shaped Turkic cultures from pre-Islamic times to their conversion to Islam beginning in the 10th century. We will study the eclectic nature of Turkic mythology, examining how ancient shamanistic practices and Islamic beliefs have intertwined to influence Turkic societies' spiritual, cultural, and societal norms. Through a comprehensive study of oral traditions, literary sources, and historical texts, students will gain insight into the continuity and transformation of Turkic mythological themes across centuries.
Class Schedule: Thursdays 5:00pm - 7:00pm
Class Format: In Person
Sessional Dates of Appointment: January 1, 2025 – April 30, 2025
Minimum Qualifications: PhD in Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations or related field or equivalent knowledge and experience. Evidence of knowledge in subject matter.
Description of Duties: Preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; holding regular office hours; calculation and submission of grades; and other teaching related duties and administrative tasks associated with an undergraduate course.
