Description: This course develops an awareness of and practice in the arts as a means of personal development and as a learning technique. The philosophy and practice of Dance and Drama in education will be explored, focusing on cognitive, social, and artistic development of the child.
This course is designed to assist teachers in the Primary/Junior Division in the development, implementation, and assessment/evaluation of Dance and Drama focused learning experiences. Candidates will participate in activities involving games, movement, tableau, role-playing, storytelling, playmaking, writing in role, improvisation, interpretation, and presentation. They will explore elements of dance through creative movement inspired by various artistic mediums.
Current theories of arts in education will be incorporated as participants plan drama lessons, consider expectations, and implement assessment strategies as outlined in the Ministry documents. The use of Dance, Drama, and Music as art forms as well as an integrative methodology for learning across the curriculum will provide a framework for the course.

Sessional dates of appointment: Jan. 2025 to Apr. 2025
Salary: As of May 01, 2024, the minimum stipend is $9,457.90 (inclusive of vacation pay) for a half credit course. Salary may be prorated based on the appointment percentage.
Minimum Qualifications: Should possess a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.Must demonstrate currency and mastery in the course subject matter.Must demonstrate excellence in teaching, including online teaching as relevant.Must demonstrate evidence of knowledge and practice of principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion.Must demonstrate excellence in teaching and leading teachers/teacher-candidates' professional learning.An Ontario Teaching certificate is an asset.Description of duties: Prepare, organize, and teach this course graduate seminar; be available to students seeking assistance between classes; evaluate and provide students with feedback on their work.
