Description: The New College Programs Office seeks a Sessional Instructional Assistant from January 1, 2025 – May 7, 2025 for the following in-person course:
JQR360H1: The Canadian Census: Populations, Migrations and Demographics JQR360H1 – Examines the Canadian population census through the experience of diasporic groups in Canada. Approaches the census as a statistical tool, an historical source and an ideological project of citizenship and nationalism. Uses census data to explore mathematical and statistical concepts and to integrate numerical ways of thinking with qualitative analysis.
Number of Positions: 1 (One) position of 125 hours
Salary: $52.26/hour + 4% vacation pay
Minimum QualificationsAbility to teach quantitative research methods to students with little or no background in statistics (e.g. data analysis in Excel; creating graphs and charts in Excel; basic statistical analysis; and use of demographic surveys in research and policy); and familiarity with history and theory relating to the course required.
ResponsibilitiesIn-person teaching of skills-based labs on quantitative research methods to support lab assignments in the course, using MS Excel and online databases.Holding office hours.Consulting with and attending benchmarking sessions with the Instructor.Advising students about and marking course assignments and labs.May involve attending lectures.Application ProcessApplicants should submit — in one consolidated application package — a detailed letter of application, an updated curriculum vitae, previous teaching evaluations (if applicable), preferably two reference letters but, at the very least, the names and contact information for two referees, as well as the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 application form located here: CUPE 3902 Unit 3 Application Form by December 5, 2024.
