Reference: CPT000662-CV-2An engineering company specializing in the installations, repair, and maintenance of diesel engines and turbochargers for the marine, power, locomotive, and generator industries is looking for a Service Engineer to join their team in Rossburgh, Durban.
IMPORTANT: This is a contract position. You will be required to work outside normal hours from time to time. You will be expected to travel on both land and sea. MARINE Industry experience is required.
Duties & ResponsibilitiesPurpose:
The primary purpose of the job as Service Engineer is to perform installations, repairs and maintenance as well as commissioning of new installations & repair of equipment on high & medium speed and two stroke diesel engines, including the maintenance of generators. These repairs may be carried out in the workshop, or onboard a vessel/plant etc.
Duties and Responsibilities / Tasks Maintenance, installation & repair:
Ensure that all work is carried out according to the manufacturer's procedures and specifications by utilizing the manufacturer's instruction manuals and relevant technical drawings that include:
Dismantling of equipment, machinery, and components.Cleaning of components.Ready components for inspection & calibration.Perform/assist with inspection and calibration (balancing) of equipment and recording calibrated data for incorporation into repair reports.Identify any worn or malfunctioning components and marking them for replacement.Assemble equipment, machinery, and components upon receipt of replacement parts and conducts final inspection and testing.Assist with root cause investigation of failed equipment.Ensure that all work carried out is according to prescribed safety standards & procedures and that all use the correct PPE, both in the workshop and out on site.Ensure that the correct tools are used for a specific job and that they are used correctly. The required tools for a job must always be in a good state of repair.Ensure that all locking devices for keyways, bearings assemblies, etc. are in good condition and that they are re-fitted upon re-assembly.Record all calibrations, deviations from specifications, spare parts utilisation, etc.Assist with fault-finding functions regarding control & monitoring equipment of a pneumatic/electronic nature.The removal & installation of fuel pumps & injectors on all engines.Perform welding & basic fabrication tasks on equipment where required.Liaising with customers & colleagues:
Perform on-site liaising with sub-contractors' staff and outsourced specialist repair service providers regarding progress & organizing of work.Respect all colleagues, customers, suppliers & others at all times.Administration:
Must be computer literate, and capable of producing professional service reports.Record hours worked inclusive of overtime.Ensure that all documentation/supplier invoices, etc. are handed in timeously to ensure accurate invoicing.Maintain close links and inform the company Directors/Management of all/any issues.Personal skills & characteristics:

Ensure that all activities always follow corporate regulations and policies, the company code of conduct, and applicable law.Ensure that health & safety requirements are met and adhered to at all times.Perform daily housekeeping to keep the workshop and stockroom neat & tidy at all times.Minimum Requirements:
The successful candidate should have at least a Red Seal certificate as a Diesel Fitter or a Diesel Mechanic.Experience in the Marine Industry is crucial.Package & RemunerationMonthly
