The Role & Key ResponsibilitiesAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Detective Inspector to join the Serious Organised Crime Unit, within the collaborated Specialist Crime Command. The role will be based in Lewes, with the expectation that you will work as demand dictates in both Surrey and Sussex, along with covering on call commitments in both force areas.
This is a permanent posting, and applicants must be supported for release by their line management. This role is an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of tackling serious and organised crime.
The Serious Organised Crime Unit investigates serious and organised crime and is part of the collaborated Surrey and Sussex Specialist Crime Command. SOCU is responsible for progressing covert investigations against top tier organised crime groups and providing strategic and tactical management of covert tactics across the force. As the Detective Inspector of SOCU, you will be expected to complete training to become a Covert Law Enforcement Manager (CLEM) and accredited Senior Investigating Officer (PIP3), if you do not already hold these qualifications.
The hours are typically Mon – Fri 0800-1600 but team members are required to flex their working hours equally around operational demands whilst maintaining a work/life balance. You will also join a cadre of 'on call' advisors to provide the force with a covert capability 24hrs a day.
The successful candidate will –
Be responsible for team performance and development.Build strong internal partnerships with SOCU North, Centurion, MCT, ECU, Force Intelligence, and divisional investigation teams.Build strong partnerships with SEROCU, NCA, the Southeast Forces, and external partners when appropriate.Act as Senior Investigating Officer to a number of complex investigations, utilising overt and covert investigation.Manage sensitive and occasionally highly sensitive disclosure.When suitably trained, provide an on-call advisory role around covert tactics for kidnap, crime in action and force level incidents across Surrey & Sussex.Manage debriefs and share learning at the conclusion of complex investigations.Represent SOCU at relevant force and regional events and meetings.Skills & ExperienceEssential skills criteria for this role are –
