Job Specifics: On-site, based in Sandton, Johannesburg, South Africa Full-time Role Overview: The Senior Underwriter in the Construction Guarantees division is responsible for the management and underwriting of both new and existing clients.
The role involves comprehensive financial, technical, and credit risk assessments, portfolio management, and consistent engagement with brokers and clients to ensure smooth operations.
Key Responsibilities: Evaluate and interpret financial statements to make informed underwriting decisions.
Underwrite construction guarantees, aligning with the business unit's profitability goals and overall targets.
Manage underwriting portfolios by analysing trends, developing, and implementing portfolio strategies.
Perform risk assessments covering credit, technical, and operational aspects of client businesses.
Review existing client facilities on an annual basis and manage all administrative tasks related to new and existing guarantees, such as issuing, amending, and cancelling guarantees.
Handle all financial transactions, including premium quotations, invoicing, and collateral management.
Provide management with comprehensive portfolio reports and assist in business development as needed.
Conduct site visits for risk monitoring and compile detailed risk assessment reports for project sites.
Build and maintain strong relationships with key brokers, clients, and other stakeholders.
Address broker and client queries promptly while continually striving to enhance service levels.
Requirements: Diploma or Degree in Finance or the Built Environment.
Certification in Short-Term Insurance (or working towards it).
RE 5 Certificate for Representatives (or working towards it).
FAIS compliance (or progress towards meeting compliance).
A minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction, insurance, or banking industries, with at least 3 years of specific experience in a finance or guarantees-related role.
