Senior Textile Technologist

Details of the offer

Senior Technologist: Textiles will play a critical role in ensuring that TFG fabric and product quality and compliance in terms of regulatory and legal requirements are met.This position reports to the Lead Technologist in Textiles and is part of the Group Merchandise Procurement Division (GMP) and the Quality Assurance department.Key Responsibilities:Regulatory Compliance:Manage the fabric quality, performance, and overall enhancement.Ensure fabric standards meet TFG's Textile specifications as set out in the Quality Compliance guideline manual.Manage supplier relationships both local and offshore.Ensure legislative and regulatory compliance on product labeling.Risk Management:Manage risk in the supply chains, from raw materials, processing, manufacturing, and TFG's routes to market (safety, business & reputational risks).Quality Control:Implement protocols to monitor fabric quality consistency.Monitor Vendors and Textile Mills performance, highlight deviations from specifications, and implement action plans to rectify fabric performance.Product Development Support:Promote continuous fabric improvements and work closely with Textile mills to enhance overall fabric performance.Stay abreast of new fabric developments in the Textile Industry.Analyze fabric construction and yarn specifications.Documentation and Record Keeping:Ensure all filing and laboratory records are assessed and loaded within the predetermined SLA and Quality System.Customer Confidence:Respond to complaints and incidents quickly and effectively, ensuring stakeholders are aware and relevant action is taken to prevent late deliveries.Collaboration:Build strong suppliers/laboratory partner relationships.Build future capabilities with lab partners.Supplier Management:Play an active role in the supplier strategy, ensuring the use of the best Textile Mills & sources.Support the development of supplier capability through collaborative engagement, setting clear goals, and measuring progress.Qualifications and Experience:Completed tertiary qualification in Textiles or Fabric Technology or a related field.Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Textiles environment, including knits, wovens, dyeing, and laboratories as an added benefit.In-depth knowledge of local, national, and international compliance standards and regulations (ISO Standards).Good knowledge of fabric qualities and fabric pricing.Proven experience in developing Textile fabric and processes.Skills:Analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively at all levels.Strong literacy skills and computer literacy in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.Behaviours:Effectively works with others to achieve shared goals.Recognizes, respects, and appreciates the diverse values, beliefs, and perspectives of others.Effectively adjusts behaviour, approach, and decision-making based on the situation.Develops plans and prioritizes initiatives that align with organizational goals and objectives.Assesses and improves the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of various work processes.Interprets and simplifies complex and contradictory information when resolving organizational problems.Takes accountability and ensures others are held to account on agreed-upon performance targets.Sets ambitious goals and takes focused action to achieve desired outcomes to deliver measurable results.Preference will be given, but not limited to, candidates from designated groups in terms of the Employment Equity Act.
