Senior Systems Engineer (Optical-Electronic Systems) - Military Product DevelopmentCompany Overview: A company focusing on electro-optical and machine learning developments with a casual office and a lively atmosphere. We are currently seeking someone to join our team full-time as a Senior Systems Engineer.Position Purpose: The purpose of the Systems Engineering position is to technically define and lead the development of complex systems across engineering disciplines. The Systems Engineer is responsible and accountable for overall system compliance to client and internal requirements, including but not limited to technical performance, lifecycle management, manufacturability, and producibility.Focus: Our company's focus is mainly related to electro-optical systems for application in the civilian and security industry but should also be suitable for limited defense applications.Collaboration: The Systems Engineer will work jointly with Programme/Project Managers in the process of product development, as well as other engineers, contractors, and contract manufacturers.Duties & ResponsibilitiesThe responsibilities of the Systems Engineer will include:User Requirements Specification (URS) definition & negotiationURS break-down into system-level requirements, architecture, and functional flow as well as managing requirements traceabilityProducing a Systems Engineering Management PlanManage technical risk across the system lifecyclePerforming/contracting the necessary technical studies and simulations required for investigations into potential solutions, trade-offs, or risk mitigationDefining/reviewing/managing sub-system specifications, technical budgets, internal and external interfaces, and interoperability requirementsSystem Fabrication, Assembly, Integration, and Testing (FAIT): leading the technical teams for sub-system development, ensuring technical integrity of designs, providing technical guidance, ensuring that the systems engineering processes are adhered to, and ensuring output quality.Lead technical reviews (including PDR, CDR, PRR, QRR, and First Article Inspection)Perform system FMEAManage safety, reliability, and logistics aspects relating to the productEnsure proper baseline documentation and configuration managementProduce system-level test, verification, and qualification plans and oversee performancePersonal CharacteristicsA suitable personal character would be:A gently assertive leader with the ability to direct and motivate others to achieve their timescale, quality, cost, and performance targets.The ability to apply a broad and deep technical knowledge through independent judgment and decision-making; however, A-type management is strongly discouraged.Self-motivated and proactive character is required, with the drive necessary to bring product development projects to a successful conclusion.An innovative thinker and pragmatic problem solver who can identify a variety of technical options, evaluate their suitability, and select the optimum solution.The willingness to consult others and negotiate consensus where necessary.A clear communicator with established presentation skills.A structured and organized worker.The flexibility necessary to work on a broad range of projects of varying size and complexity within a dynamic company.Exhibits an enthusiastic, confident, and positive attitude toward their work.Maintains a polite, respectful, and professional demeanor at all times.Desired Experience & QualificationsQualification:Bachelor or higher Engineering DegreeRequired Experience:10 years or more Engineering experience in a military product development environment3 years or more Systems Engineering experience in a military product development environmentSystem Engineering of at least 1 system development project throughout the lifecycle of the system from requirements management to design to verification and qualification to providing data packs and technical support for production and product support teamsPractical knowledge of requirements management including experience working with stakeholders (internal and external) to elicit, analyze, and negotiate requirementsExperience in requirements management and the application of Validation and Verification traceabilityExperience in Opto-Electronic systems (e.g., DTV cameras or Infrared cameras)
