Large Mining Company in development phase is seeking to appoint an experienced Senior Surveyor who will report directly to the Chief Surveyor and will serve as a member of the Technical & Operations Team. Position will be based at our Mine Site situated in the Greater Tubatse area, within the Sekhukhune District Municipality, in Limpopo Province.Responsibilities:Ensure the mine is adequately equipped as far as surveying infrastructure and equipment to deliver services to all stakeholders at the mine.Ensure compliance with the Mine Health and Safety Act 29 of 1996 and with company HSE policies and procedures.Perform risk assessments with a supervisor/manager (Activity Based and Mini) and PTOs in line with company safe operating procedures (SOPs).Pro-actively identify risk, variance to plan and discuss the impact thereof.Ensure that work area conditions are maintained to a high and acceptable standard.Ensure adherence to related legislation and company policies, procedures, and COP's.Apply experience and knowledge in innovative way to solve problems.Ensure best practices and safe maintenance practices are utilized.Provide support to other departments as and when required.Collection and processing of drone survey data for mine geology, environmental, site surveying and mining purposes.Ensure adherence to industry regulations and organizational standards.Advise directors and Operation teams on mineralogy changes.Collaborate with management to identify and analyze business requirements.Identify gaps and implement agreed upon solutions.Gathering:Provide survey data resources and information.Capture data on appropriate systems. Manage and ensure all relevant software are available for use. Administer effective information recording systems.Conduct research, document, and assist in implementing best practice survey and sampling standards and procedures.Coordinate the implementation of surveying best practices and supporting technology that optimise value and minimise risk in mining in conjunction with the Chief Surveyor.Perform monthly production measuring with the Chief Surveyor.Compile monthly safety reports and ensure compliance with safety standards guidelines, policies, and procedures.Perform underground excavation measurements and subsidence monitoring.Identify and report on work related risks and hazards.Develop, implement, and monitor effectiveness of surveying related controls for prevention of injury and fatalities across the company with the Chief Surveyor.Analysing:Develop and review appropriate reports and outputs for accuracy before submission to the Chief Surveyor. Obtain, check, and refine information, collate, and submit reports. Run data exception reports and take corrective action. Conduct document control spot-checks.Compile monthly, quarterly, and annual reports.Effective collection, analysis, and reporting of survey data.Continuous research for improved streamlined data capturing and processing within a mechanised mining environment and shaft sinking.Ensure operational planning and scheduling is implemented.Check all survey related attributes in the environment.Analyse the latest design plan.Communication:Report, reconcile and declare production figures.Prepare appropriate reports and documentation.Prepare information for payments and budget purposes.Provide survey information for updating of plans.Issue survey instructions and notifications in conjunction with the Chief Surveyor.Communicate survey instructions on the latest approved design.Compliance:Ensure that all survey work performed on the mine is accurate and conforms to all legal requirements. Compile legally compliant mine plans, aligned with Department of Mineral Resources' requirements in conjunction with the Chief Surveyor.Ensure legal compliance on SOP's, and risk assessments. Comply with appropriate risk mitigation and risk management systems.Plan, implement, control, and monitor approved changes to area of responsibility to respond to changes in the industry, legislation and other related matters including transformation and optimization.Implement compliance requirements. Communication compliance charges.Promote and assure adherence to safety, health, and environmental procedures.Develop, implement, and monitor survey standards, guidelines, governance, and assurance processes in conjunction with the Chief Surveyor.Develop and maintain systems, processes and procedures which apply to work and operate within these requirements.Other functions:Prepare accurate tonnages and grade of mined material to deplete the various mineral reserves and resource models in conjunction with the Chief Surveyor.Optimize the core operational internal processes and internal supply chain and resolve operational conflicts.Manage the efficient and effective utilization resources.Plan, direct, and assess Quality Management within sub-function and recommend remedial actions where necessary to ensure adherence to TQM principles.Provide input into functional planning, interpret functional plan, and develop sub-functional plans.Optimize systems and processes continuously to ensure production efficiency targets and operational plans are met.Apply surveying expertise to optimise mine operations across the Company for sustainable and optimal long-term value realisation.Identify surveying related environmental and social opportunities across the Company.Teamwork:Communicate with others in a verbal and electronic manner.Care, share, collaborate and cooperate across disciplines and functions.Ensure teamwork expectations and plans are clear.Complete administration requirements.Manage relationships with Business Units and external stakeholders to ensure effective alignment and facilitate relevant training and development as necessary.Generate improvement ideas.Participate in meetings.Interact with other teams and systems.Recruit, train, and develop employees and manage own team's performance.Identify recurring problems and derive creative solutions involving team members.People:Enforce the Company's 'Code of Conduct'.Advise management in training required by employees.Create a high performing team and conductive employee relations climate.Ensure that safety regulations are adhered to by employees working with and under their direct supervision.Do risk assessments and communicate with employees thereafter.Work with Chief Surveyor on new work approaches, methods, and policies to optimize performance.Ensure IDP's are linked to performance results and implemented as per plan.Conduct career discussions and implement actions with all identified talent (quarterly).Assist in achieving HDSA/female targets for the department.Manage and interact well with employer, employees & stakeholders.Positive, approachable and enforce discipline.Ensure that health and safety standards are always adhered to.Ensure teamwork and effective communication amongst reporting staff.Manage performance against set targets and competencies:Monitor, manage and participate in routine workplace safety activities.Manage complexity at varying levels and adapt quickly to changes in job priorities.Create employee schedules, assign schedules and responsibilities to employees, checking to see if these responsibilities and assignments are completed effectively.Identify deviations or non-conformances, plan and implement corrective actions to ensure attainment of the department plan.Inspect equipment and instruments to detect defects / malfunctioning and report to manager accordingly.Work overtime / standby / shifts as needed.Assign and ensure overtime and shift compliance in line with the BCEA.Work within budget and avoid material wasting. Control the utilisation of allocated resources (i.e.: people, machines, and equipment).Mining Management:Examine, bar, make safe and declare workplaces safe and healthy for work and maintenance.Assist in the control, management, and direction of underground working of the mine and conduct general massive operations.Strategic Planning:Assist with the compiling of the Mine Strategic Plan.Tactical Planning:Ensure that the necessary safety precautions are taken before any task is performed.Monitor and maintain a safe and healthy working environment in the workplace.Test, monitor, and control environmental factors.Take cognisance of and adhere to company policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.Manage and report on non-compliance issues to manager.Establish and maintain good working relationships and an effective / sound communication system with the various teams and departments.Strong commitment to service and quality standards as well as stakeholder satisfaction.Any other responsibility that can be reasonably expected in this role / function.Qualifications:National Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or equivalent.National Diploma in Mine Surveying or similar field.Bachelor's Degree in Mineral Resource Management advantageous.Advanced Mine Survey Certificate of Competency.Advanced Mine Valuation certificate.Member of IMSSA (Institute of Mine Surveyors of South Africa) and/or SAGC (South African Geomatics Council) advantageous.Valid Driver's License.Experience:Minimum 5 years' experience as a Senior Surveyor or similar in an Underground Mine.Experience, understanding and competency in surveying of underground trackless mining and shaft sinking.Experience in a Green Fields / Start-up mining project.Experience in Mine Planning and Drafting advantageous.Language Requirements:English: Fully Proficient.Sepedi: Verbally Proficient advantageous.Fanakalo: Verbally Proficient advantageous.Knowledge & Skills:Surveyor System skills e.g., CAD, JDE, Isometrix, Qlikview, Micro Station, Oracle, and Leica Geo Office etc.Mine Health and Safety Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and other relevant legislation.Quality management systems (ISO 9001) and environmental management systems (ISO 14001).Demonstrated subject matter expertise through experience working in an operational mining environment across multiple commodities.Understanding of the key principles of the Operating Model.Baseline, geodetic and Cadastral surveys.Financial management principles and cost control measures in mining operations.Risk assessments and management techniques specific to the mining industry.Mine surveying, planning and scheduling processes.Excellent communication and presentation skills.Strong interpersonal and leadership skills to create a positive and productive work environment.Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to quickly analyse complex situations to address operational challenges and resolve issues.Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.Adaptability to changing circumstances and willingness to take initiative.Able to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, and effectively collaborate and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.Exceptional organizational and time management skills to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.Additional Requirements:Medically fit to work on an underground mine.
