GENOMICS PLATFORM (CAPE TOWN OFFICE) The South African Medical Research Council (SAMRC) strives to improve the nation's health and quality of life by funding and conducting relevant and leading health research. SENIOR SCIENTIST (C) Duration: Permanent The SAMRC's Genomics Platform requires a Senior Scientist with sufficient bioinformatics experience and expertise to lead and contribute to in-house and collaborative next generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis projects. The incumbent will also contribute to data management, analysis infrastructure and capacity development at the Genomics Platform.
Responsibilities: Processing and Analysis of Next Generation sequencing data. Building bioinformatics networks – both local and international. To lead laboratory and data analyses for genomics and multi-omics research and method development projects. Produce manuscripts and grant applications relevant to the outcomes of these projects. Capacity development for NGS and bioinformatics. Core Requirements: MSc degree in Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Genetics or a related field. At least two years' experience with next generation sequencing data analysis. Presenting research findings and reports at relevant conferences/meetings. Familiar and up-to-date knowledge of next generation sequencing modalities. Experience in working in Linux environments. First authored publication in a national/international peer-reviewed journal. Advantageous: Experience with postgraduate student mentorship and training. A track record of initiation and management of research projects. Comprehensive use of computational clusters. Proficiency in common scripting languages (Python, Java, and R). Salary: A salary in the region of R 779 666.00 per annum, cost-to-company, will be negotiated in consideration of experience and qualifications.
