As a result, our employees get to work for the top global brands on some of the most exciting projects around the world.This role will be for a Senior QS for our infrastructure division, based in Durban.Job DescriptionEstimating and negotiating change orders throughout the construction lifecycle.Providing estimate and cost planning to include producing and presenting the final cost plan.Reviewing and participating with the design services team and general contractor in the development of the cost estimates.Reconciling changes and assisting the general contractor to ensure that their data is accurate.Communicating or meeting with the general contractor and owner project manager to gather status information to prepare a cost estimate update.Preparing written comments to the general contractor's submissions, including the executive summary.Coordinating all sources of cost information for cost discussions and suppliers direct from NPA, subs, quantities from A/Es.Informing and driving engineering priorities based on cost impact.Working proactively with minimal supervision to resolve scheduling issues.Managing cost checks and carrying out valuations on larger projects. Completing timely, accurate cost checking and valuation processes.Participating effectively with post-contract cost variances and the change control processes.Managing cost impact / contingency management and commitment tracking logs.Preparing funding data presentations and coordinating VE sessions with stakeholders.You will also be responsible for:Pre-ContractDeveloping cost plans and estimates through the design phase, delivering updated cost plans at appropriate design milestones.Providing commercial input to design optioneering and input into value engineering exercises.Reviewing contractor and subcontractor pricing and leading negotiations on behalf of the client to drive fair contract prices.Post-ContractPerforming quantity surveying, cost controls, and change management activities throughout the project lifecycle.Ensuring that post-contract cost variances and change control processes are managed effectively.Ensuring that cost auditing and valuation work is managed effectively and that a robust process for cost validation is in place.Carrying out the production of monthly cost reports for presentation to the client.Ensuring that final accounts are negotiated and agreed in a timely manner.Compiling as-built cost estimate records for benchmarking purposes.QualificationsEssentialQualified to professional standard in Quantity Surveying with membership of an appropriate professional body and/or educated to degree level.Relevant successful experience of provision of estimating and/or QS services in a mining environment to high-profile or complex major projects or programmes.Knowledge of project management, planning, risk, and investment processes.A strong technical cost management or estimating competency is essential.Must have knowledge in the use and benefits of cost management systems.Strong knowledge of construction contracts, JBCC, NEC3/4, and FIDIC.DesirableDemonstrable experience in managing and leading large teams and successful setting and implementation of business strategy.Preferred degree in quantity surveying or associated construction field.Additional InformationIt is strictly against Turner & Townsend policy for candidates to pay any fee in relation to our recruitment process.
