Details of the offer

IVANHOE MINES is looking for an enthusiastic Senior Project Geophysicist prepared to travel to join our global mineral exploration team.Ivanhoe Mines is a leading Canadian mining company committed to becoming a global leader in the supply of critical resources required to transition our world to a low-carbon, renewable future. Ivanhoe is focused on developing and expanding its four principal mining and exploration projects in Southern Africa. The development of the Kamoa-Kakula copper mining complex in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the Platreef palladium-rhodium-platinum-nickel-copper-gold discovery in South Africa, the extensive redevelopment and upgrading of the historic Kipushi zinc-copper-germanium-silver mine, also in the Democratic Republic of Congo and exploration on the Western Foreland, near Kamoa-Kakula.Seeking a candidate ready to apply their interpretive skills to Ivanhoe Mine's search space at the intersection of hard rock mineral exploration and oil & gas basin analysis in the global search for sediment hosted copper deposits and other critical minerals needed for the energy transition."Dare where others won't go, or think what others won't dare" - few can fund either, so most do neither!!!Ivanhoe Mines is hiring Geoscientists with the expertise to grow the team that is doing both in the hunt for new global mineral discovery.Play your part in our team succeeding...To oversee the acquisition, interpretation and management of all aspects of airborne and ground-based exploration geophysical data for Ivanhoe Mines. To collaborate closely with the Principle and Senior Project Geologists using a Basin Analysis/ Mineral Systems Approach to generate new mineralisation targets for follow-up.To bridge the gap between Oil and Gas and sediment hosted copper mineral geophysical approaches and develop original and innovative hard rock, basin analysis driven geophysical workflows that will accelerate discovery of new copper and critical minerals deposits within Ivanhoe Mines' sediment hosted copper exploration project portfolio. To maximise the geological understanding extracted from geophysical data available to Ivanhoe Mines by generating 3D inversion and other earth models to image below shallow Kalahari sand cover and Karoo volcanic sequences. You will have the following:BSc Hons Geophysics.Post graduate degree (MSc or PhD in applied geophysics preferred).Valid driver's license. At least 8 years in geophysics environment, with a minimum of 3 years in a basin analysis role.Experience in the full workflow of survey acquisition from design, contractor adjudication, acquisition management, QAQC, data review, analysis and interpretation.Expert knowledge of geophysical systems as applied to Oil and Gas sedimentary basin analysis and sequence stratigraphy interpretation.Understanding of the Mineral Systems Approach (MSA) to Mineral Exploration.Experience working in a collaborative team of geophysicists and geologists.Experience of developing and mentoring junior geophysicists and helping them realise their potential.Experience with various geophysical software an asset (i.e. Oasis Montaj, VOXI, GMSYS, Geoscience Analyst, SimPEG, etc.).You will have advanced skills and knowledge in:Proficiency in geophysical software and tools, seismic interpretation, data processing, modelling, analytical skills sufficient to analyse complex data sets.Advanced Oasis Montaj (or equivalent).Significant knowledge of various geophysical techniques (magnetics, gravity, electromagnetics, seismic); theory and application.Database Management (acQuire) inversion and forward modelling.Microsoft (ppt, word, excel).ArcGIS Pro (preferable).3D software for geological modelling (Leapfrog).Software programming skills e.g. Python.Technical Skills should include:Good Analytical skills.Communicate clearly both verbally and written.Must be self-motivated, efficient, and innovative/pro-active.Good communication skills.Cross functional abilities (geophysics - geology collaboration).Personal Competencies should include:Health & Safety orientated.Comfortable working independently, under supervision and in team settings.Able and willing to take instruction.Enthusiastic.Continuous improvement mindset.Must work efficiently and effectively in a multicultural setting.Able to engage at all levels of the business. You will be responsible for:Group Geophysics Management:Oversee all geophysical activities for Ivanhoe Mines exploration and mining operations from inception to completion (survey design, acquisition, processing, final output).Manage the acquisition of new geophysical data across various jurisdictions.Establish and monitor quality standards on all airborne and ground geophysical projects.Screen data against data acceptance criteria and filing of data and interpretation products in an appropriate digital archive (cloud based).Geophysics Survey Design, Acquisition and Field Operations:Provide input into airborne geophysical survey design and selection including technical and commercial adjudication.Review of contractors and in-house QA QC procedures and processing steps to ensure efficiency and quality.Monitor contractor performance and product delivery.Design and manage follow-up ground survey programmes.Monitor performance of ground teams and facilitate training, site visits, quality audits, and safety incident investigation.Data Analysis & Interpretation:Process airborne Gravity (Tensor and AGG), Magnetics / Radiometrics, Electromagnetics (EM) and ground AMT/MT and Seismic (passive and active) datasets available to Ivanhoe Mines.Collaborate with other geophysical subject matter experts on large and more complex projects.Carry out multivariate analysis of airborne geophysical surveys applying a Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) approach for integration of geophysical and geological datasets and synthesising results in reports and presentations.Innovation & Basin Analysis:Develop innovative geophysical data processing and novel interpretation workflows for sediment hosted copper exploration.Research multiphysics techniques and basin analysis principles for sedimentary basins used extensively in Oil and Gas exploration to establish sequence stratigraphy, and to identify potential reductants and structural trap sites in sedimentary copper depositional environments.Create an integrated workflow between the geophysics and geology workstreams for Ivanhoe Mines bridging the gap between Oil and Gas and hard rock / Critical Mineral geophysical approaches.Recommendations for further R&D and test surveys to refine this approach, keeping abreast with the latest geophysical technologies.Take part in defining and monitoring specialty studies and integrate qualitative and quantitative results from these studies into the integrated interpretive workflows.Participate in regional sedimentary basin analysis and target generation studies collaborating closely with the Ivanhoe Mines' Principal and Senior Project Geologists. The finer details:Should you not hear from us within 30 days of the closing date please consider your application unsuccessful. As an equal employment opportunity employer, it's important to us that our workforce reflects people of all backgrounds, identities and experiences.
