Full Time | R70 000 CTC basic pm | Cape Town We are seeking an experienced Senior Linux Network Engineer to join a leading web hosting company, supporting their mission to deliver top-quality hosting solutions.
The ideal candidate will take responsibility for maintaining the core network, aligning it with business objectives, and ensuring scalability, reliability, and performance.
This position involves working with Cisco routers and switches , with some exposure to Arista and Extreme switches .
You'll play a crucial role in designing, deploying, and automating network infrastructure, ensuring the highest performance in a service provider (data center) environment.
The role also includes third-tier network support, network monitoring, and system administration integration.
Responsibilities : Design, deploy, support, and maintain the core network for an internet hosting business and office functions (VPN, etc.).
Thorough knowledge of TCP/IP, networking , and information system security principles.
Research and propose upgrades for network infrastructure.
Document and present highly technical information in a clear and informative manner.
Write and maintain network documentation; train staff on network operations.
Collaborate with the system administration team to integrate network functions.
Hands-on management of network infrastructure including routers , switches , firewalls , load balancers , and other devices.
Automate network tasks and maintain network monitoring tools.
Provide third-tier support for network issues.
Architect, deploy, and scale platforms while ensuring security measures are implemented and tested.
Coach and mentor team members on networking.
Contribute to business continuity and disaster recovery planning and testing.
Stay current on network technologies and trends, proposing new solutions for performance and scalability.
Technical Expertise : Extensive experience managing and administering network infrastructures in a Linux-based environment, with a focus on virtualisation and containerisation .
Deep understanding of BGP , OSPF , and other network protocols.
Proven experience with Cisco IOS , Extreme XOS , and other router and switch operating systems.
Strong background in network automation tools such as Ansible and Python/Bash scripting.
Experience with network security best practices and open-source log analysis and monitoring tools (e.g., ELK, Graylog, Nagios, Icinga).
Understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies (e.g., STP , VLAN , LACP , QinQ , etc.).
Qualifications : 5+ years of experience as a Senior Network Engineer or Network Administrator .
Professional certifications (e.g., CCNA , CCNP , CCIE , or equivalent) are advantageous but not essential.
Experience designing networks in service provider environments, utilizing BGP , VXLAN/EVPN , OSPF , MPLS , etc.
