Faircom is a leading Internet Service Provider (ISP) that connects you to the Internet through high-speed & uncapped fibre solutions, wireless fibre packages and VoIP connections. We work with leading underlying infrastructure providers (including our own).We are looking for an experienced Senior Network Engineer to work with a network team to implement and maintain network solutions for our business. The senior network engineer will be responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining security.If you possess exceptional networking knowledge and you are passionate about technology and ready to make an impact, we want you on our team.Duties will include but are not limited to the following:Administer and monitor network infrastructure, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.Proactively monitor and troubleshoot all systems, escalating issues to relevant departments when necessary.Identify, plan, and implement network changes and upgrades to improve efficiency and performance.Configuring/planning networks at new sites.Routing and Switching: Proficient with routing protocols and switching technologies.Perform ongoing maintenance of systems and networks, supporting both commercial and residential clients within the group.Manage and execute scheduled changes, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.Assist in overseeing and establishing timelines for major IT projects, including system updates, upgrades, migrations, and planned outages.Identify and prioritise key infrastructure growth areas that align with the business unit's objectives.Collaborate with the team to develop innovative strategies for expanding the customer base footprint.Work closely with other business units to understand and meet IT requirements for various projects.Oversee GSuite administration and ensure seamless integration with other systems.Manage software backup processes, ensuring all backups are regularly tested and function optimally.Administer the VOIP platform, maintaining clear and reliable communication channels.Ensure the overall health of the network by regularly monitoring and addressing any issues.Maintain accurate and up-to-date network documentation for reference and compliance purposes.Recommend technical solutions with clear completion timelines to meet project and operational needs.Ensure that the network remains current and up to date, thereby giving our users the best possible connection experience.QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related fields. A master's degree would be advantageous.Experience and knowledgeProven experience in IT technologies.Experience with ISP or telecommunications.Experience with brands such as Juniper, Mikrotik, Cisco, Dell, HP, Ubiquiti.Layer 2 protocols such as VLANs, including QinQ and STP.IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and subnetting.Routing protocols, e.g. OSPF.VPNs with non-traditional use, e.g. EOIP / PPTP etc.Technical IT-based experience (Analog Phones, OS's such as ChromeOS and MacOS, fundamental understanding of computer operations, VoIP, WIFI etc).Skills and attributesNetwork Design and Architecture: Expertise in designing, implementing, and managing both local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs).Network Security: Knowledge of firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and intrusion prevention systems (IPS).Cloud Networking: Skills in cloud services integration, including knowledge of cloud platforms such as Google Cloud.Software-Defined Networking (SDN): Understanding of SDN architectures and related technologies like NFV (Network Functions Virtualization).Troubleshooting Expertise: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues effectively and efficiently.Performance Tuning: Skills in optimising network performance through traffic management and quality of service configurations.Attention to Detail: Precision in network configurations and documentation.Team Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, providing guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.Adaptability: The ability to adapt to new technologies and rapidly changing environments.Innovative Thinking: A mindset geared towards continuous improvement and innovation in network management.Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).Specific requirementsMust have a valid driver's licence and reliable vehicle.Clear health record.Clear criminal record.Clear credit record.Working hours are Mondays to Fridays from 08h00 to 17h00 with a 45-minute lunch break. The company allows employees, by approval of the direct manager, to work flexi-time between 07h00 and 18h00.Due to the nature of the position, you will be required to be on call on a rotational basis.We offer Barista produced coffee available all day to all our staff at Claremont.Salary on offer from R 60 000 Cost To Company per month.
