Senior Mechanical Engineer - Johannesburg/Umhlanga Office
Senior Mechanical Engineer required to fulfil the role of Team Lead Mechanical Engineer and join our Industry South Africa team to assist with our growing workload. You will be a flexible and dynamic individual with the ability to lead in the development of our growing team out of South Africa.
You will be responsible for overseeing and managing all mechanical engineering aspects of industrial building design projects. Project responsibility will vary from inception and defining a client's design brief to inspections, specifications, design, and management of projects. This role requires someone with the ability to lead a team of engineers, deliver quality and robust deliverables, and ensure that all project milestones are met on time and within budget.
Role objectives include:
Providing leadership to the South Africa Mechanical Engineering team, reporting to the Director Advisory Group.
Maintaining effective communication and relationships with our global teams (NL, GER & UK).
Providing technical leadership on projects.
Mentoring and coaching design engineers or technologists.
Business development support including input into bids and proposals.
Supporting our global teams (NL, GER & UK) on industrial projects.
Assisting our South Africa Data Centre Team with a range of projects.
Managing and delivering the mechanical work packages in multiple projects.
Your responsibilities will include:
Identifying the scope, design, and management objectives and delivering project documentation to ensure the quality and flow of information required for contractors, vendors, and regulatory authorities.
Producing design calculations, sketch drawings, and details of drawings using relevant software (Revit, Revizto, etc.), including checking and reviewing these prior to issue where completed by others.
Writing technical specifications and reports.
Assisting the project manager in the preparation/review of project costs and risk assessments.
Developing and maintaining vendor relationships to ensure continuous technical professional development.
Reviewing contractor pre-qualifications and preparing tender evaluation summaries for tender reviews.
Evaluating proposals and making recommendations to the client regarding vendor selection.
Writing technical specifications for tenders.
Representing RHDHV on factory acceptance tests and site testing & commissioning activities.
Communicating the status of projects to internal directors and external stakeholders (clients) on an ad-hoc and formal basis.

What you bring
A bachelor's and/or master's degree in mechanical engineering.
At least 8 – 10+ years of relevant industrial building working experience in mechanical engineering (specializing in HVAC with working knowledge of other mechanical subdisciplines such as Wet Services, Fire, Medical Gas, Mechanical Utilities, Cleanrooms, Lifts, etc.) design and installation in a consulting engineering environment.
Professional registration with ECSA as a PrEng is required.
Good knowledge of standard practices in the design and construction industry.
Good understanding of the daily (operational) business of our clients.
