QUALIFICATIONS:National Diploma in Civil EngineeringRegistered with ECSA as a Professional Civil TechnicianMaintains professional registration on an ongoing basisEXPERIENCE:10+ years' experience as a Materials Technician in a Civil Engineering consultancy environmentRESPONSIBILITIES:Works in a close relationship with the laboratory including having regular discussions with the laboratory manager about the condition, progress and standard of the laboratory.Conducts regular laboratory inspections and reports and drafts reports.Acts as liaison between the Engineer's Representative and the laboratory.Advises the Engineer's Representative where the laboratory does not comply with the contractual and technical requirements.Prepares and signs off materials mix and seal designs or any other relevant matter for submission to the Engineer's Representative.Verifies the requests for lot approval submitted by the contractor and ensures the tests requested are in line with the lot submitted.Ensures the laboratory is granted sufficient time for sampling with regards to every request received.Keeps track of submission time for laboratory results. Receives and verifies all the test results from the laboratory manager.Signs off test reports and makes recommendations for approval or rejection.Inspects works daily which shall inter alia include materials sources, layer works, structures and any other materials related to items on site.Conducts visual inspections on materials in lots submitted for approval.Inspects all trial sections constructed and completes as well as records trial section checklists.Populates progress sheets linking test requests with the position on layer works.Drafts the monthly materials and laboratory reports.As-Built data up to date.Discusses technical theory applicable to a project and uses technical knowledge to discuss technical challenges and offers meaningful insights, on site.REMUNERATION:Market related (based on experience and qualifications)
