Job Summary
To manage AVAF & Ford Credit collections risk strategies within SA, focusing on developing, implementing, and monitoring payments and collections strategies. An outcome of the role is to ensure delinquency prevention, collections, and recoveries strategies are developed, implemented, and maintained to achieve target lending loss rates within the risk appetite.
Collaborate with stakeholders and other business areas to develop leading-edge predictive techniques and modelling to ensure sustained competitive advantage.
Data & Analytics:

Ownership, oversight of development and implementation, and monitoring of customer level, account level and environment level predictive analytics to predict outcomes within the recoveries portfolio.
Investigation and development of informal risk ranking mechanisms using analytical and/or data science techniques.
Making inputs into financial planning processes (MTP, STP, RAF, Books of Work etc.).

Strategy formulation, implementation and management:

Using data insights through performance monitoring and predictive analytics, formulate recoveries strategies to:
Prioritize resources and capacity among the portfolio of recoverable exposures.
Assign the appropriate strategic objective and actions per account/sub-portfolio.

Stakeholder engagement:

Update and/or prepare various decks to present insights to the AVAF/FFS collections Manco, Head of Collections, the AVAF Steerco and AVAF Exco on performance tracking, developing insights, new strategies and updates on strategy & operational performance.
Ongoing engagement with various Manco leaders and teams on change management when changes are deployed, standard updates are tracked as well as BAU ad-hoc type of requests.

People management:

Oversee the execution of recurring and new tasks by analysts of both FTE and contingent nature.
Rollout of the AVP analyst framework, performance management and development of analysts through the talent grid.
Role will have at least 1 AVP analyst as a direct report.

Job Description
Accountability: Strategy, Planning and Risk Management

Manage the implementation of leading-edge payment and collection strategies in AVAF & Ford Credit.
Manage and develop collections and high-risk account management strategies (preventing a customer rolling into collections) using leading-edge techniques/scoring to maximize collections, including the ownership of implementation of the strategies.
Review and optimize Forbearance strategies for AVAF & Ford Credit to ensure recoveries are maximized whilst rehabilitating the customer.
Participate in the strategy setting and design of the Collections Operations and External Debt Collectors incentive programmes to ensure their effectiveness in motivating collectors and ensuring performance is improved to attain budgeted targets.
Participate in strategy setting and design for the payments solution across the different payment types to ensure improved instalment collection performance.
Maintain documentation of end-to-end credit collections strategy.
Develop strategy and policy tests to challenge and enhance current strategies.
Understand the interaction between the macro environment and credit performance and adjust credit collections strategies to accommodate stressed events.
Ensure Management Information (MI) is in place or developed to monitor strategy performance and effective implementation/adherence.
Ensure that required portfolio reviews are completed, review the results and make recommendations to the business leaders on how their business activities should be tweaked to improve portfolio performance.
Ensure systems used for implementing collections strategies are fit for purpose and identify and specify enhancements as required.

Accountability: Stakeholder and Relationship Management

Coordinate and communicate collections activities with the respective BUs, Risk, technology and Operations teams.
Drive close collaboration with Operations and Technology teams and instil a co-operative and conducive working relationship.
Secure support from Collections and Recoveries Operations, Risk Teams, MI, Business teams, Finance and HR to deliver collections programs.
Participate in BU/Manco meetings to ensure adequate communication and understanding of senior managers in the BU around the analytics-based methodology used by Risk and decision-making.
Support the BUs to deliver impairment targets and Loan Loss Rates aligned with forecasting by providing proactive analysis and guidance.
Liaise with various internal stakeholders to secure their respective support in the implementation of changes to the strategies.
Review and report strategy performance and trends to the Head: AVAF & Ford Credit collections and recoveries strategy, Operations Manco, Home Loan Exco and other relevant committees as required.

Role/Person specification
Education and experience required

Honours Degree in Mathematics and/or Statistics or equivalent NQF level 8 qualification.
3 years of relative banking experience of which 2 years should be in a senior role (preferably Retail Banking).
Highly numerate and literate.
Well-rounded credit professional with sufficient management experience.

Knowledge and skills:

Knowledge of dealing with Retail Bank clients (Expert).
Proven record of accomplishment in credit management & Sanctioning (Expert).
Financial analysis and interpretation skills (Advanced).
Stakeholder Management Skills (Advanced).
Decision Management using predictive models (Expert).
SAS Skills (Expert).
