Job DescriptionJob responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Provide mining and project execution input into site-specific 5-year plan, lead development and ongoing management of the UG Mining BP and 1-year budget.Review and sign off technical plans and production inputs for budgets and the MOP process, ensuring they are based on sound logic with appropriate and actionable planned improvements.Work with Corporate/ BU/Technical Services to develop and implement plans to optimise extraction, material movement and grade management.Drive continuous improvement of Mining work and cross-functional interfaces required to deliver safe, sustainable, and efficient UG mining operations.Optimise mine operating and management standards and processes to ensure safe, efficient, and productive mining operations and the delivery of benchmark performance.Develop and implement tactics and plans to optimise development, production, and support processes, ensuring target specifications and quality measures are met or exceeded.Ensure there is an agreed plan in place to deliver improvements to benchmark on all priority Mining equipment within 3 years.Identify benchmarks and best practices for on-site Mining work to set performance goals that will deliver the 1-year budget.Effectively lead and manage UG Mining operations to deliver the budget including all relevant project, production, safety, environmental, cost and quality targets.Manage process and costs to ensure the Mining teams set and deliver the annual budget and production targets safely, efficiently and cost effectively.Develop cost awareness within Mining discipline and focus on reducing all process waste.Embed systems, targets, and processes to effectively track and control execution on a monthly basis, ensuring a high level of compliance to plan across suite of metrics.Provide thought leadership to all mining activities to ensure a realistic range of options are investigated, considered, and effectively implemented, with recognition of effective discipline integration and value from synergies.Proactively identify Mining-related challenges and opportunities that new systems, equipment, and technology could address.Report to various internal and external stakeholders on contractor performance and progress/status of engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning associated with mining, underground construction and TMM packages.Accountable for the supply of trackless mining equipment (TMM package) and the full delivery of the underground development scope (mining package) and any underground construction scope awarded to the sinking contractor.Actively collaborates and integrates with internal and external stakeholders on integration matters, resource allocation, scope prioritisation and Best Practice initiatives affecting design, construction, commissioning, operational readiness and handover.Proactively directs the analysis of designs, constructability reviews, schedule conflicts and the prioritisation of risks, opportunities and recommendations to successfully deliver the various packages within budget and schedule.This role is at a band 5 level reporting to the General Manager Mogalakwena Underground. QualificationsAn undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours Bachelor's degree or equivalent) in a relevant mining engineering discipline. Statutory holder qualifications as required.Post graduate Mining qualification will be advantageous.Qualification or certification in General Management and or Project Management will be advantageous.Experience, Knowledge and SkillsMinimum of 15 years knowledge and experience.Mining Operations + Technical experience of large scale, UG mechanised mines.Experience with direct line management of a high-performance underground mining contractor for development, production, services and general mine construction activities.Large team leadership (5-10 direct reports with large complex teams).Managing and leading integrated owner and major mining (and construction) contractor teams in a mining project construction phase, and production ramp up.Technical areas including geology, geotechnical engineering, ventilation, hydrology, mining (pre-production and production), maintenance and engineering.Construction / engineering project management of medium to large scale underground mining projects.Project & Mine Management experience of large scale mechanised UG Project &/or Mines.Managing partnership best practice performance with Tier 1 Mining Contractors.Operates with a high level of autonomy.Displays tolerance and resilience and is not easily discouraged or deterred from achieving required outcomes.Consistently strives to exceed performance objectives.Motivated, commits significant personal and discretionary effort to deliver future value.An integrator and doer, not just a manager. Someone who physically drives work outputs and collates data into useful reporting formats.Additional InformationValid EB/Code 08 driver's licence.Medical certificate of fitness.Work on site at Mine operation will be required.
