PURPOSE OF ROLE To lead, manage, continuously improve and be responsible for the engineering function, ensuring the quality, quantity and milestone outputs meet all requirements as set by the project and industry best practices.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS Design and develop engineering strategy and policies aligned with the division's functional strategySet up and maintain engineering policies, best practices, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and change management processesManage the engineering department budget – planning, forecasting and reportingEnsure technical quality and timely delivery of engineering workResource and manpower planning, utilization monitoring and reportingPerformance management of the engineering departmentCoordinate work within the design department as per SOPs and project execution plansProvide regular feedback on engineering status and progressEnsure compliance with the Lesedi Quality Management SystemImplement and monitor functional strategy plans and initiativesDevelop and execute engineer-in-training (EIT) programsImplement mentorship programs and ensure personal development plansManage internal and external stakeholders effectivelyQUALIFICATION Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng. or B.Sc.)Registered Professional Engineer with ECSAMaster's degree and/or postgraduate diploma in project management, leadership and/or management (advantageous)EXPERIENCE 20+ years' experience in engineering and project execution environment15+ years' experience in engineering design, with at least 10 years ideally in the nuclear and/or power generation industryAt least 5 years' senior management experience, including leading and managing a multi-disciplinary engineering teamKNOWLEDGE & SKILLS COMPETENCIES Knowledge: Sound business and commercial knowledgeUnderstanding of engineering principles relevant to nuclear & power generationKnowledge of multi-disciplinary engineering deliverables across the project life cycleFamiliarity with project management methodologiesUnderstanding of financial management and cost controlProficiency in regulatory and industry norms & standardsKnowledge of quality assurance processes and continuous improvement initiativesBehaviours: Strong leadership and team-building skillsExcellent communication and interpersonal skillsHigh emotional intelligence and stress toleranceAdaptable, flexible, and able to multitaskDecisive and capable of making difficult decisionsCritical and systems thinkingSelf-driven and proactiveLogical and practical approach to problem-solvingSkills: Ability to inspire, motivate, and mentor team membersExpertise in resolving conflicts and driving team performanceProficiency in contract management and scope controlStrong organizational and planning skillsCapability to develop and execute project plans, schedules, and budgetsSkill in identifying and mitigating engineering-related risksAbility to translate technical details for non-technical stakeholdersProficiency in developing and implementing functional strategy plans
