Career Opportunities: Senior Legal Advisor | Retail Product Development | Legal (8112)The candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks in rendering legal services to the broader retail business. The Retail Legal team sits in the Product Development department and assists with the design and improvement of products, services and operations from a legal perspective, including the amendments of products and services required by the ever-changing regulatory landscape.
The successful candidate will be expected to work independently, with support from the Retail Legal team to respond to queries, provide legal opinions to the business, draft and amend agreements and client-facing documents and assist with the training and mentoring of junior legal advisors.
Key Area of Responsibilities/ Task RequirementsReview and interpret applicable legislation / sub-ordinate legislationProviding legal advice to relevant business areas and on relevant projectsAdvise management, employees and clients on all legal matters that affect business decisions Assess feasibility of existing and/or new products and/or enhancements from a legal perspectiveRespond to legal queries relating to products and product featuresDraft, amend and review relevant client forms/documents and agreementsProvide training and/or knowledge presentations Write articles on legal topics applicable to clients and financial advisersDispute resolution: liaising with external attorneys, industry Ombudsman etc.Review and comment on applicable draft legislation Engage with industry bodies, such as ASISA where necessaryHave knowledge of/familiarity with the following legislation: • Long-Term Insurance Act
• Financial Intelligence Centre Act
• FATCA/CRS
• Financial Advisory and Intermediary Services Act
• Financial Sector Regulation Act
• Income Tax Act
• Protection of Personal Information Act and GDPR
• Exchange Control Regulations
Have knowledge of various additional areas of South African law, such as • Administration of estates
• Family law
• Contract law
