Description Of Tasks: Legal Advice and Opinion: Conduct legal research on the legal question posed. Advise the department on legal options available to the legal question posed. Review company policies. Legally sound opinion and advice. Legally sound company policies. Legislative support: Draft and pilot company Bills through Parliamentary process, including the drafting of cabinet memoranda and publication of bills. Draft regulations on legislation administered by the department. Bill passed into law. Regulations compliant with legislative drafting standards set by the Chief State Law Advisor. Liaise with departmental stakeholders and the office of the Chief State law Advisor. Established and maintained sound working relations with State Law Advisers and Parliamentary Law Advisers. Contracts and International agreements: Vet and draft domestic and international contracts or agreements. Quality contracts completed and submitted to Director: Contracts and Legal Advisory. Approved legally valid and enforceable contracts. Litigation support: Peruse court documents and consult with the relevant company Programme. Compliance with prescribed time frames (in terms of Rules of Court). Make recommendations to the Minister on the appropriate course of action. Provide instructions to the State Attorney, private Attorneys, in relation to the matter and attend relevant consultations, arbitrations or, hearings. Review / provide inputs on pleadings and other court applications / processes and provide on-going instructions to the company legal representatives on the matter. Workforce Empowerment: Conduct workshops and information dissemination sessions on relevant legal areas. Awareness sessions on relevant legal areas conducted. Provide ad hoc legal information as and when required on an ongoing basis. Ad hoc legal information provided as and when required. COMPETENCY REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge: Knowledge of Public Service Law, Contract Law, Constitutional and Administrative Law, Legislative drafting, Dispute Resolution mechanisms, South African legal System, Legal compliance, Intellectual Property Law, Litigation, Ability to conduct legal research and Dispute resolution.
