Job ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will actively participate in the following areas:Develop and undertake research projects related to Veterinary Wildlife medicine and/or health;Publication of research in national and international scientific journals;Postgraduate training and supervision of masters and doctoral students;Obtaining research grants and contribute to fundraising and third-stream income;Teaching and practical training of undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary and veterinary nursing students in wildlife related topics;Play an active role in growing the Centre for Veterinary Wildlife Research and the Department of Production Animal Studies' research capacity and impact;Networking with relevant industry stakeholders and fostering collaborations;Community and media engagement;Administrative and other duties as delegated by the Centre Director and Head of Department;Academic self-development and data presentation at congresses.No application will be considered after the closing date, or if it does not comply with at least the minimum requirements.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSA BVSc or BVMCh degree or an equivalent professional veterinary qualification;Registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) or eligible for authorisation by the SAVC;Postgraduate studies and publications;An appropriate PhD degree in a relevant area of Wildlife Veterinary medicine and/or health with eight (8) or more research-based full papers in accredited scientific journals, five (5) of which should be as senior/first author (Provide a portfolio of evidence of how these criteria are met);A research Master's degree and specialisation/certification in a relevant area of Wildlife Veterinary medicine and/or health with eight (8) or more research-based full papers in accredited scientific journals, five (5) of which should be as senior/first author (Provide a portfolio of evidence of how these criteria are met);A record of previous undergraduate and postgraduate teaching;Proof of primary supervision of postgraduate students (at MSc or PhD levels);Experience in research activities including experience in grantsmanship;Evidence of continued professional development or continued education development.REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL ATTRIBUTES)Appropriate knowledge in relevant areas related to Veterinary Wildlife medicine and/or health;Good language, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills;Critical analytical and thinking ability;Commitment to obtain a PhD within a reasonable time in a field related to the discipline of Veterinary Wildlife medicine and/or health;Good project management skills and a good team player;Generic research and teaching competence such as communication and presentation, basic statistical, word-processing, spreadsheets and social networking skills.ADDED ADVANTAGES AND PREFERENCESLecturing experience at a tertiary level;Registration as a specialist with the SAVC.SALARY DETAILSThe annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
