University of PretoriaLecturer / Senior Lecturer: Porcine Health and Production - Department of Production Animal StudiesPermanentFull TimePublished: 1 day agoMarket RelatedEE/AA, Non EE/AAIntroductionFACULTY OF VETERINARY SCIENCEDEPARTMENT OF PRODUCTION ANIMAL STUDIESLECTURER/SENIOR LECTURER: PORCINE HEALTH AND PRODUCTION(ONE POST)ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will actively participate in the following areas:Teaching and practical training of undergraduate and postgraduate veterinary and veterinary nursing students (including special emphasis on porcine health and production)Clinical services through the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital, surrounding community and satellite clinics, including participation in a 24-hour service; actively recruiting additional clientele to fulfill this mandatePostgraduate training and supervision where appropriateResearch and publication in scientific journalsNetworking with relevant industry stakeholdersCommunity engagement – participation and supporting student activitiesAdministrative and other duties as delegated by the Head of DepartmentAcademic self-developmentNo application will be considered after the closing date, or if it does not comply with at least the minimum requirementsMinimum RequirementsA BVSc or BVMCh degree or equivalent professional veterinary qualificationMust be registered or willing to register in 2024 for Masters programme – MSc in veterinary science (relevant production animal focus) or MMedVet degree in Porcine health and production, and be able to graduate in reasonable timeRegistration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC) as a VeterinarianA minimum of three years of veterinary clinical experience predominantly in porcine health and production aspects (case log required)Evidence of continued professional development or continued education developmentAn appropriate MMedVet-degree and/or equivalent specialty board certification in Porcine Health and ProductionRegistration with the SAVC as a specialistMinimum of five years of veterinary clinical experience with at least three years' experience in predominantly Porcine Health and Production aspects (case log)At least two full peer-reviewed papers in an accredited scientific journal as author or co-authorOrA BVSc or BVMCh degree or equivalent professional veterinary qualificationMSc degree with particular focus on production animalsRegistration with the SAVC as a VeterinarianMinimum of five years of veterinary clinical experience with at least three years' experience in predominantly Porcine Health and Production aspects (case log) post acquiring a Master's degreeFive or more research-based full papers in an accredited scientific journal as senior author and/or co-author in the last five years. The research should be focused towards a particular subject area (e.g. specific disease or condition) and not be broadRequired Competencies (Skills, Knowledge and Behavioural Attributes)Proven knowledge and competence in veterinary clinical work with an emphasis on porcine health and production aspectsResearch interest appropriate to the positionCommitment to obtain a PhD in reasonable time in a field relative to the discipline of porcine health and production or production aspectGood language and communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skillsGeneric teaching competence including proficiency with presentation, word-processing and spreadsheet softwareAdded Advantages and PreferencesExperience with relevant specialised procedures, techniques and toolsTertiary teaching and mentoring experienceExposure to research in an appropriate fieldSalary DetailsThe annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbent's level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines.
