Duties & ResponsibilitiesPURPOSE OF THE POSITIONThe position aims to address undergraduate teaching to BPharm students in the subject of Pharmacy Practice in the School of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health Sciences. It includes supervision of both undergraduate and postgraduate students (i.e., MPharm in Pharmacy Practice) across the Faculty's blended training platform, while strengthening and expanding research in the subject group and the research entity Medicine Usage in South Africa (MUSA).KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:Undergraduate Teaching and Learning (A7)/(A8):Teaching and learning in the undergraduate BPharm programme (subject group: Pharmacy Practice) and be compliant with the South African Pharmacy Council requirements.Co-ordination of a Pharmacy Practice module, with a specific focus on communication for pharmacists, which include study guide development and maintenance, lecturing, presentation of practical sessions, assessment (setting of papers, marking of scripts and moderation of papers), administration of student marks and other aspects related to the module.Postgraduate Teaching (A7)/(A8):Study guidance of postgraduate students in MPharm in Pharmacy Practice programme (three subprogrammes: Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacovigilance, Pharmaceutical Economics and Policy and Pharmaceutical Public Healthcare Governance).Research (A7)/(A8):Initiating and conducting research within the research entity, Medicine Usage in South Africa (MUSA), and the ability to write publications and funding applications relevant to the core focus of the entity.Leadership, management, service to the University and social responsiveness (A7)/(A8):Provide service to the University by contributing to the definition and achievement of its goals and enable it to be a healthy organisation. This includes being a member of faculty and subject group committees and working parties within the University.Maintain an involvement in community service as a scholarly practice through the application of pharmacy practice knowledge and skills.Administration and other tasks.Desired Experience & QualificationAn MPharm degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification (NQF level 9) in Pharmacy Practice.A bachelor of Pharmacy (NQF level 8).Registered as a Pharmacist with the South African Pharmacy Council.A minimum of two (2) years' experience in lecturing to undergraduate students in a BPharm curriculum within the field of Pharmacy Practice.A minimum of two (2) years' research experience relating to Pharmacy Practice including at least 2 publications in accredited journals (Senior Lecturer).A minimum of two (2) years' experience in a patient-facing pharmacy environment (excluding internship and community service).ADDED ADVANTAGE:Membership with the Pharmaceutical Society of South Africa.KEY FUNCTIONAL / TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:A sound knowledge of Pharmacy practice.Presentation / lecturing skills.Language proficiency in Afrikaans and English (reading, writing and speech).Study design within the field of pharmacy practice research.KEY BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCIES:Good communication skills (verbal, written and use of technology).Professional and ethical behaviour.Ability to work independently as well as in a team.Innovative, dynamic and enthusiastic.Ability to function under pressure.Ability to build and encourage healthy human and collegial relationships at all levels in the NWU's environment.REMUNERATIONThe annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.ENQUIRIESREGARDING JOB CONTENT MAY BE DIRECTED TO: Prof. Jan Steenekamp, Tel No: 018 299-2276REGARDING RECRUITMENT PROCESS MAY BE DIRECTED TO: Ms. Janine Da Gama, Tel No: 016 910-3451CLOSING DATE: 26 April 2024COMMENCEMENT OF DUTIES: As soon as possibleKindly take note: applications may only be submitted online through the official NWU vacancy website.
