CORE PURPOSE OF JOB The Department of Environmental Health is searching for a qualified and experienced Environmental Health lecturer, who is currently registered with the HPCSA.
The incumbent must have an in-depth knowledge of the higher education learning and teaching landscape, which should
include curriculum development.
Competence in the general field of environmental health, conducting and supervision of students (undergraduate and post-graduate) research, is essential.
Responsibilities will include the facilitation of work integrated learning (WIL) activities, community engagement projects, undergraduate and post-graduate student enrollment and recruitment, participation, and contribution in Departmental and Universitys administrative and academic and
committees and be an ambassador for Environmental Health.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS Lecturing and taking full responsibility for various modules (both theoretical and practical components) according to the needs of the Department, including the co-ordination and administration.Assist with research in the department and supervision of undergraduate and post-.graduate students in research.
Guide students in work integrated learning activities.Assist with academic and operational administration, including development work and engagement activities.CORE COMPETENCIES Show evidence of eligibility to undertake postgraduate study at doctoral level (lecturer) or postdoctoral level (senior lecturer) and write proposals and articles.Excellent knowledge of theory and application of the various fields of environmental health.Experience in working in the field of environmental health (MUST).Good teaching skills and experience in facilitating learning.Good relationships with students.Excellent communication and negotiation skills.Strong administrative skills.Ability to compile study guides and student notes/handouts/manuals.Proven ability to facilitate learning of students in theoretical and practical components of environmental health.Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment. REQUIREMENTS M+5 qualification in Environmental health or equivalentRegistered with the HPCSA as an Environmental Health Practitioner (currently active)Demonstrable interest in becoming a successful academic.Experience of a minimum of two years as an independently registered Environmental Health Practitioner.
