Duties & ResponsibilitiesPURPOSE OF THE POSITION:The candidate will be responsible for lecturing undergraduate and/or postgraduate statistics modules, and can also be expected to be involved in the development of new modules. Other duties include the supervision of postgraduate students, and statistical consultations where one supports staff members, post-doctorate and postgraduate students with the planning, design and statistical analyses of their research projects.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:1. Teaching and Learning:Presenting undergraduate and postgraduate statistics modules.Development of new modules.2. Research and Innovation:Mentoring and supervision of postgraduate students.Conducting collaborative research and publishing research outputs in accredited journals.3. Community Engagement:Statistics outreach activities & service to the Statistics community.Desired Experience & Qualification· A PhD (NQF level 10) in Mathematical Statistics.· A minimum of 5 years' experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses.· A proven publication record in accredited journals (including refereed conference proceedings).RECOMMENDATIONS / ADDED ADVANTAGES:· Membership with the South African Statistical Association (SASA).· Experience in postgraduate supervision.KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:· The candidate must be able to:Analyse data using advanced statistical techniques by means of suitable statistical computer packages (such as SAS, R, SPSS and STATISTICA).Present both undergraduate and postgraduate statistics modules.Act as group coordinator for modules with multiple groups.Communicate well in English (verbally and in writing).REMUNERATION:The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.ENQUIRIES REGARDING JOB CONTENT MAY BE DIRECTED TO: Prof David Kubayi, Tel: 018 299 2569CLOSING DATE: 26 April 2024PLANNED COMMENCEMENT OF DUTIES: As soon as possibleKindly take note: applications must be submitted online through the official nwu vacancy website.Incomplete applications and those submitted through any other platform will not be considered.The University subscribes to and applies the principles of Employment Equity (EE) Act and is committed to transformation.
