Senior Laboratory Technician

Minimum Requirements:National Diploma in Biomedical Technology or Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technical Certificate3 - 5 years laboratory experienceValid GCP and GLCP Certificates (advantageous)Advanced computer skills including using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), internet browsers and medical databases.Excellent communication and interpersonal skillsStrong organizational skills, with excellent attention to detailAble to work autonomouslyValid drivers license (advantageous) Responsibilities include (but not limited to):Manage intern and junior techSpecimen processing and storage, including maintaining biobank manifests in real timeProcessing and handling all associated specimens according to protocol and laboratory manuals.Maintain an audit trail tracking the specimens progress through the laboratoryComplete the CRFs associated with specimen collection as outlined in the study protocol and laboratory manualMaintain study specific Laboratory Working Files with all the relevant documentationMaintain temperature monitoring logs for fridge-, freezer- and room temperature of the laboratory and follow up on the corrective actions for any deviationsEnsure that Laboratory Equipment is calibrated on a regular basis as per requirements (when applicable)Arrange for transport / courier of specimens at specified intervals.Maintain Internal Quality Control (IQC) and External Quality Control (EQC) programs and perform investigations as requiredCompile monthly reports on stored sample inventoryRespond to audit findings and implement any remedial action, if audit conductedEnsure that laboratory safety procedures are followedAdditional Information:12-month contractWorking hours - 40 hours per week, Monday to FridayPosition based in MowbrayThe University of Cape Town Lung Institute is committed to equity in our employment practices and reserves the right not to appoint.The selection process will be guided by the Employment Equity Plan and Targets of the University of Cape Town Lung Institute (Pty) Ltd.*Please Note: This Position is not on UCT Conditions of Service.
